Mysterious Signal From Outer Space - Is Someone Trying To Contact Us?

A mysterious signal coming from a region of space between the constellations Pisces and Aries has been picked up on three different occasions by the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico.

The signal is very puzzling and does not resemble any known astronomical phenomenon. Researchers who have studied its frequency pattern do not believe it is natural interference or noise.

Was the signal transmitted deliberately by an extraterrestrial civilization on a distant planet? Scientists remain cautious but we cannot dismiss the possibility.

"Scientists remain cautious but we cannot dismiss the possibility."

Yes we can. The law of inverse squares is a cruel master, but fair.

I suppose these signal searchers in order to continue to justify their mission and its funding have to be operating on the assumption that "they" are not already here and have been for millions of years, but it is increasingly ludicrous as a piece of their charter that they must pretend blindness to all the "signals" we get much more directly via encounters right here and now on terra firma. It is like they are living in a self imposed vacuum of knowledge and experience. They sometimes sound like some newly discovered tribe that doesn't know what the heck is happening on the rest of the planet.

i prefer to take the view that, just like nature itself, not everything is going to be utilizing the same niche, exploring using the same tools. reality is endlessly novel and we are a part of reality so those of us who want to try to find ET by exploring our inner selves will do so while those who want to find ET by exploring ghosts will do so etc etc etc.

it's all gravy, i think :3

And money. I have nothing against the SETI type projects, but I do get a bit irritated when their proponents try to sell the idea that the vast amount of UFO lore now assembled is all questionable, and especially when they indulge in what I think are specious arguments about the odds of our being contacted physically. The tacit assumption is that we have never been contacted in the first place, but many of us think it is obvious we have and that therefore the odds of contact are closer to 100 per cent. In light of this all the speculation about number of habitable planets probable in our galaxy and from that the odds of our being visited just looks sort of silly. The odds that we are actively being visited right now are very, very high. Even higher are the odds that "they" are just as much citizens of this planet as we are and probably more so if squatters rights hold.
