Is 4chan the future of human consciousness?

Author Jason Louv argues in all seriousness that 4Chan is "our best preview of where human consciousness is going," calling them a "freebased version of mankind's new drug of choice..." 4Chan users are "the Magellans of media desensitization," showing us "the chaos at the edge of human perception, where the mind has consumed so much information through artificially enhanced sensory inputs that it begins to break down and cannibalize itself."

"The kaleidoscope of the Internet is more endless, more distracting and more mutating than even the most potent psychedelic drugs could have ever prepared us for," and 4chan is "the ultimate, final trip."

When I first began using the internet, it required a certain amount of intelligence to use it at all, and for me I used it for scientific information via text. Before html there had been program sharing via the first versions of the net, and before that bbs's and AOL. For that matter, animations were animations, and gifs were developed by Compuserve. Video was b&w frames. (Anyone remember "Ginger"?)

The idea that t-com and data storage/retrieval costs would drop so far was not conceivable. Nor was the speed of private communication lines.

The human optic system can be used to generate emotions, essentially sex and aggression. But perhaps people will return to real life, and use the internet as a tool to help them do just that. I don't know how the 4chan kids will grow up, but you can be certain that they will, someday.

Then they'll be looking for information that affects them personally or that they can use personally in real life.
