“Thence we came forth to rebehold the stars.”

Quote of the Day:

“When I had journeyed half of our life’s way, I found myself within a shadowed forest…”

Dante Alighieri

We, the people, didn’t withdraw from the Paris Agreement, Trump did. Speaking of cleaning beaches, I just spent this past Tuesday cleaning up a needle-ridden beach in NJ. I hope people around the world realize that our President does not represent the majority of us when it comes to viewing the environment. Not all of us are close minded.

Then again, I have a friend who cares about the environment, works to rescue turtles, and voted for Trump and thinks he is the prodigal son. She is too stubborn and competitive to admit she may have made a decision that contradicts who she is. It’s all going to implode…soon.

“Noting that the decision on the Paris climate deal had been taken by another US president, Barack Obama, Putin said that the new administration would probably just rework the agreements, or come up with a new climate deal.

“[Trump] is not refusing to work on the issue, as far as I know… The [Paris] agreement will come into effect in 2021. So we still have time, and if we all work constructively, we can agree on something,” the Russian leader said, then switched to English and added tunefully: “Don’t worry, be happy.””

“The level of NDCs set by each country[7] will set that country’s targets. However the ‘contributions’ themselves are not binding as a matter of international law, as they lack the specificity, normative character, or obligatory language necessary to create binding norms.[14] Furthermore, there will be no mechanism to force[6] a country to set a target in their NDC by a specific date and no enforcement if a set target in an NDC is not met.[7][15] There will be only a “name and shame” system[16] or as János Pásztor, the U.N. assistant secretary-general on climate change, told CBS News (US), a “name and encourage” plan.[17] As the agreement provides no consequences if countries do not meet their commitments, consensus of this kind is fragile. A trickle of nations exiting the agreement may trigger the withdrawal of more governments, bringing about a total collapse of the agreement.[18]”
