Have I mentioned that Darklore 7 is now available? Probably not, I’m not the kind of guy to relentlessly pimp his own books

Quote of the Day:

Your body is a ghost factory that takes one lifetime to produce a ghost.

  1. Caputo
I really feel bad for the Long Island Medium. I think it’s rather unfair to compare her to Sylvia Brown because it’s likely that she genuinely believes in her psychic ability.

I sincerely hope she makes it out intact when all is said and done, really hate to see someone get crushed for the gifts they have.

    1. medium rare
She’s not psychic, she’s cold reading, the same thing John Edwards (remember him with “Crossing Over”?), except she isn’t being an asshole about it. Cold reading means you can decipher a person’s past in brief just by observing things on them and in their home, the client then unknowingly leads her into the full story. I like how she gives people faith and lends them comfort in time of grief, but she’s not psychic in the sense we think of it as a “sixth sense.” Granted if she starts seeing other “super” beings like elementals and sylphs maybe I will see things differently.

  2. With a nod to BSG
“We know that small earthquakes have been triggered by human activities like fracking”

Frak me, one learns something new every day…

Oh, the mighty Darklore Volume VII arrived finally today from UK. A heartfelt thank you to Greg and the rest of the team once again.

    1. Caputo is not at all cold
Caputo is not at all cold reading. You have to actually watch a number of her encounters to understand that. She is nothing at all like Edwards or any of the cold readers. She is most fascinating and convincing when she is just wandering around town bumping into random people and suddenly blowing their minds with detail of amazing specificity, and she does it very rapidly without the typical cold reader’s back and forth. I think people who accuse her of cold reading are not sincerely assessing her skills or they are not really watching her in action enough to be making a good judgement. I know a few skeptic friends of mine who watch her once and then refuse to watch any more. It is too rattling for them to handle.

          1. clip?
FYI–the link you post to above (not the clip below) doesn’t lead to a specific episode, but a series of them. I’d be curious to know the specific one you were thinking of–thanks.

I’m cautious about mediums like Caputo, Edwards, Brown, etc., but I find her compelling. I also find the knee-jerk tendency of some to dismiss her as “cold-reading” unwarranted, since it’s just too early to tell. True, it’s possible these encounters are edited so as to feature only her hits while omitting her misses, but can we say that for sure? No. For now, I’m keeping an open mind about her.

          2. A festival of validations.
A festival of validations. I dare anyone to call these reads
“cold reading.” Caputo is miles above Edwards and the like. Edwards is quite obviously cold reading. You will notice in these reads that there is almost no film cutting. They are continuous footage of the interview – no creative splicing. Of course, Caputo must experience misses too – she is human – but her hits are so frequent and so incredibly specific that she is in a class of her own. It is unfortunate that reality TV tends to make a bit of a carnival of this stuff. the infractions of popular past cold readers infect the perceptions of what is happening now. people automatically make the link. May I suggest that anyone truly interested in this subject without bias try to catch as many episode of Long Island Medium on TV as you can. That way Caputo’s entire personality forms, and you can decide whether you think she is being deceptive. I do not think she is deceiving us or herself. Caputo is just part of the gradual public awakening to other frequencies and dimensions. There is a lot more to it than Caputo, but she is quite extraordinary because she is such an empathic and heavily involved healer as well. The validations she gets so uncannily are not some facile trick. They are meant to establish irrefutably that a connection has been made, and thereafter the sessions are all about healing.

Start at about the 4 minute mark in the above video. This is just typical Caputo mind blowing. She does it all the time and on the street too.

Typical Caputo “drive by.” I love it.

            emlong,

            now i’m guessing here,

            1. so it seems to you that whatever Caputo is doing is not ‘cold reading’?

            2. and further to that, that you think that if it ‘is’ ‘cold reading’ then you feel concerned that you’ll have to re-evaluate your thoughts on Caputo et al?

            3. isn’t ‘cold reading’ just being hyperaware? like the fictional character Holmes is able to, in a few moments, know a whole lot aboot a person just by being with them?

          4. cold reading

Yes, it essentially means very observant and intuitive of the persons you encounter and your surroundings, which is not in anyway a bad thing. The problem is that people think that when someone calls her out as cold reading, they assume we are calling her a fake, and that certainly isn’t true. Perhaps her intuition isn’t telepathic, but that makes it no less psychic, in a matter of words. i guess we can truly only watch and take away our own perceptions of her, but never know unless we entered her head.

            Also in todays news: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/tv-psychic-anne-germain-is-accused-1378805

I do not rope Caputo in with Edwards, his own crew called him out as being fake, a liar, and absolutely a jerk to them. At least Caputo is giving people faith that their loved ones have moved on peacefully (i.e. a church minus the dogma) 😛

          5. The strictest definition of
The strictest definition of “cold reading” means asking a whole lot of questions and then piecemeal getting a person to essentially tell you things about themselves. It is a deception in every way. If you have some much more loose definition of the word then fine, but the generally accepted meaning of it is deception.
Caputo asks very few questions. Mostly she feels presences around and then might ask one question to give her some idea as to who it might be. From then on she mostly makes declarative statements about what she is seeing. It is possible that she is not talking to the dead but instead just reading people’s minds, but that in and of itself is rather amazing at the level of detail she brings to it. On reason I don’t think she is just reading minds is that she often comes up with detail that requires some mentation on behalf of the living to recall who are then suddenly sort of gobsmacked to recall that what she is observing was a true but dim memory.
I have watched enough ghost busting type shows and have enough of my own personal ghost experiences to know that spirit hangs around real time and interacts intelligently with the present, so it does not at all surprise me that Caputo is communicating with spirit. What she does is just more proof. i don’t need to hang my hat on Caputo alone, but she is spectacular. the only way I can imagine this to be a hoax would be that everyone – and that includes all the random seeming people she reads on the street – to be “in on it’. To be acting. If the hoax is of that magnitude then it would also have to include her family. The only valuable thing about the filming of Caputo’s family dramas is that it demonstrates how guileless she is. I do not think it would be possible for her to deceive, yet I do not think she is fooling herself either. That is why she so confidently deploys her gift.

            emlong,

ty for the clarification of your particular way of structuring things :3

I’m having an ‘interesting’ time now as my mom just died and ‘I’ am ‘communicating’ with her

          7. Mom
Dude, I’m so sorry for your loss. Even if we’re slowly understanding that the separation might be just temporary or even imaginary, but I want to express my condolences anyway.

          8. from the Living-in-Interesting-Times-Dept.
that’s a condolence that could only happen here :3

            ty, you’re one buen hombre

(i’m finding that i’m reacting to each death in my life differently…SOUL, MAKE SENSE ;3)

          9. That is a tough one. I hope
That is a tough one. I hope she really is “coming through” for you. The most notable aspect to Caputo’s work is how concerned are the deceased that we understand the larger picture, but even when we do the pain of loss like that is still there.

if my mom starts giving me tips on the secret to everything or whatnot, I’ll know its not her :3

she does have an awesome sense of humour — on her deathbed, i mentioned how dignified she looked…then she stuck out her tongue :3

i guess she has ruined me for ‘serious’ paranormal investigation forever…;3

          11. The Great Laugh

she does have an awesome sense of humour — on her deathbed, i mentioned how dignified she looked…then she stuck out her tongue :3

            I think that’s awesome.

On a book I once read that the so-called final judgment one receives after we pass on, consists of an immense chorus of laughing voices, so overwhelming that you have no choice but to join in the laughter.

So I think your mom had the right kind of approach to the next step in her adventure ^_^

          12. Caputo’s take one the other
Caputo’s take one the other side is mostly not at all serious. Most of her sessions are laughter filled. People retain their sense of humor no matter what.
