News Briefs 11-04-2011

Make yourself comfortable. Sit a spell. There’s plenty of space here for everybody.

Quote of the Day:

Suddenly, it streaked downward, at about the 2 o’clock position out my windshield and went behind some trees. How far away?

I can’t be certain.

However, I am certain of this: As soon as it disappeared behind the trees, everything – everything – around me was glowing green.

This orbit, visiting the Earth’s vicinity every 175 years, looks really convenient for a surveillance satellite. It could take a look, go hide for 175 years, take another look…

  2. Utah UFO Explosion
Interesting article. I grew up only a few miles from Sardine Canyon. Depending upon which direction the craft was said to be going, any remains might never be found, or only with great difficulty.

The area to the east is VERY hilly, with plenty of woods, rocky areas and other terrain features that could hide wreckage until you were right on top of it. When I was with the Civil Air Patrol, prior to joining the Navy, we had a couple of searches for downed aircraft and never located anything, despite the reasonably small area of searching. It wasn’t until years later that some backpackers stumbled onto one of the crash sites.

The area(s) to the west are somewhat more open, but still with many small valleys and terrain features that, again, could conceal wreckage until you almost literally walked into it.

I’ll be looking into this more and see if I can “dig up” anything else on the subject.

FWIW, about 50 miles south of that are is Hill Airforce Base, a major installation, and about 50 miles WEST of the canyon is where Thiokol Chemical Corporation (now ATK) was located. Thiokol made all the 1st and 3rd stage motors for Minuteman ICBMs, as well as primary stages for all the Navy’s SLBMs. They made the solid boosters for the Shuttle, and lots of other solid-rocket motors.

    Interesting…….
