I just like to discuss things with the folks here, almost all of these other-wordly views seem quite unreasonable to me. But having said that, we (as the world) need a large spectrum of views.
Sometimes I cannot resist jumping on the more blantant stuff. In part to remind the blatant people that not everyone believes Elvis lives in Atlantis, being kept prisoner by Rumsfeld without W's knowledge.
Aside from all of this, I also like the contrast in styles. I must be the only one here favouring Hemingway: you have something to say, say it. Be done with it.

But really I like ancient history the best.And yes hidden history.All the topics are good and I mostly read as much as I can on anything, but I am very interested in what we are missing about the ancients because we continue to try and understand them from our perspective and that cannot be done.

Crop circles might just be examples of test patterns from US military satellites. The complex nature of the designs would make excellent test-patterns for control of resolution and energy levels for beam weapons. The appearance of crop circles it seems to me, coincides with the beginnings of the "star-wars" program. It could be that the creators are having a good laugh at our collective expense.

Its an idea I'm afraid. It occured to me that since some of these images reqire several nights to build up, they could be being generated by a military satellite making multiple passes; I think focused microwave radiation would be a good candidate. They could serve a number of useful purposes from just muddying the waters, testing evolving control to providing gentle reminders to other governments.
Indeed they are all worthy of a vote however for me it has to be "Hidden History" that really keeps me coming back for more. I must say though that in recent times "conspiracy" has been working it's way up the top (maybe I'm getting more paranoid) and "esoterica" also has a tendency to tickle places where others don't!

Consciousness and Hidden history are both up there at the top for me. Especially Ancient History, Zecharia Sitchin is a man of the times, a man who has dedicated his whole life to uncovering and deciphering physical evidence from the Summarians and other ancient civilizations to the roots of our beginning(http://www.sitchin.com). thanks for your concern.....I first discovered that site 5 or 6 years ago....a fair whack of it is sci-fi. To me it's another site to research. The forum there is full of " hollier than thou " would be messiahs. So I don't waste my time with that. As for the pics...well I find them interesting and enjoy the responce I get from people that see them on my wall for the first time...hehe

With all due respect to the history buffs, all studying history will ever ultimately do is convince a person that self development, by means of slowly developing the consciousness, is worth it, and is where our true potential lies. A person could eventually know everything about history, expose all the hidden "secrets" and still not have advanced one inch in development of their minds and psychic awareness. Such a person may find that what they were looking for in the study of history still, after all that time, eludes them.
This self development cannot be speed up by any "secret ancient knowledge", anymore than developing ones ability to play Beethoven or Jazz piano can be sped up by learning the secret knowledge of piano benches, and does not need to be. The mystics of the east, right now, today, are still successfully doing this, using all the ancient techniques you need to know to learn this yourself, and they will happily teach you.
Do you really want to learn some secrets? Secrets that will launch you into a world you have heretofore only thought about? Then study the meditation techniques of the masters of the east. You may even learn skillls that will allow you to project your consciousness backwards in time, to witness for yourself all the things that so fascinate you now.
What you will discover, as you learn to go deep past your subconscious and into the greater cosmic consciousness, compared to "knowledge of secret history" will be as is the light of the sun is to the twinkling of a tiny star.

I could never work out why those Buddhist monks wanted to sit around and just bore themselves to death.To me there is nothing glorious or enlightening about that.

I would like to just clarify 'Buddism', it is a philosophy of how to live not a religion. Same as taoists. Falon Gong is also a philosophy. Many believe these to be religions, and in a slight context of the word they could be called religions, but that is grasping at straws.
Mind you they are all passive teachings and offer a great deal in how to live with calm and serinity.
BTW...hope you voted to keep the old bridge. I never liked the new one. Used to see if I could drink a can of coke from one end to the other without spilling it....now that was a challenge..hehe

Well mate, that is sort of my point. If you tried it, you would know the answer to your question of why they do it. Surely you have learned that many things cannot be judged by their outer appearance. The consciousness is capable of many fantastic things, but these things require a withdrawal from bodily consciounsess in order to manifest. Obviously, such a withdrawal will make it appear as if the practitioner is doing "nothing", and "bored".
Meditation is neither a religion nor a "path". It is not a belief system, a philosophy, nor a politic. It is merely the act of shutting down of a certain spectrum of experience, the 5 senses, to see what else there may be avaliable to the consciousness.

to successfully meditate, one needs to tune all senses. By shutting down your 5 senses you are closeing avenues of sensation that are important to the overall exsperience of meditation. Understanding and then channelling those 5 senses in tune with the higher self is to meditate with much success. By success I mean to bring consciousness in tune with higher consciousness. eg;if there are seven circles, starting with the larger surounding all the pregressive smaller circles. Consciousness being the third circle from the centre. Consciousness then can only exsperience the 2 circles within. Only the outer circle can exsperience all circles within. Higher consciousness being the outside circle.
So as you can see, higher consciousness envolopes all other parts of the being. Shutting down internal proccess then excludes the whole from the full exsperience.
Your higher consciousness,(spirit,soul,astral being,aura.)whatever you choose to call it, surrounds all other states of existance.
Therefore you bring all states in tune, not exclude any one part.

I claim no knowledge of the secrets of the universe, psychic ability or any other such "I am more special than thou"-ness. But I have been meditating once or more times a day for 8 years now, and before that, quite often, so I am at least qualified to talk about the various ideas and techniques. I have explored and tried many, from both western and eastern paths, and still do this daily.
Indeed there are certain techniques used by mystics to focus and develop the consciousness that do require use of the five physical senses. I am very familiar with many of them, both eastern and western, and do practice these myself. But to claim meditation requires the active 5 senses to be "whole" (my word, but I think this is what you mean) is to redefine the traditional meaning of the term, something which I find is unfortunately quite common in the West with respect many eastern terminologies.
So, consider this:
There is a very good reason why the yogic techniques of the Yogis of the Swami order in India, such as Kriya, or many Buddhist techniques, esp. Tibetan and Zen, techinques, or the exercises practiced where I live (Indonesia) do, indeed, require shutting down all the five senses. The mystics in these traditions, the many tens of thousands of them praticing such techniques, trust me, are not in the dark (no pun
intended:) about what they are trying to do. They seem to be doing quite well on their own.
I do not believe that we disagree, however. On the contrary:
What you are describing is a very desireable state of consciousness, which is hopefully the end result of all the various methods available to us. I presume from your post that you yourself, regardless of what exercise or technique works for you, diligently practices something daily, and I salute that. I know how hard it is to stick with it, so accustomed society is to instant gratification.
Whether one sees a value in exploring these disciplines or not, is of course a personal decision.

Well, I am not convinced.I think meditation is something we do when we are not focusing on it, otherwise it becomes sort of artificial.
Meditation for me is sitting in my small garden and watching my parrot eat the flowers on the grevillea tree,and seeing only him and the tree and the flowers, and feeling the warmth of the sun and the tickle of the branches of the tree and being so lost in the moment that when I become aware of it,I know that for a short while I had entered another universe.
Or it can be when the dogs play on the bed and I become lost in the joy of their game even though they are jumping over me and on me,and I am part of it all.
I can lose myself in a moment by entering the sphere of the other creatures and being part of their world and seeing the part they play in my world.
There are lots of magic moments that I call meditation, but no I would not sit alone and try not to think.
And this didn't come easiliy to me, it took me most of my life to be able to do it, be in the moment and so totally of the moment that all else is gone.
When I was young, whatever moment I was in, I was already thinking ahead to the next moment.
Now I realise that the only moment there is, is the one that you are presently in.
That's what I call meditation.
What you are describing is great, something that by itself could save humanity if everybody practiced it I think. But there is indeed something else, something that goes deeper than that, which is traditionally called meditation. And in fact, what you describe is an considered in the East a very important first step - learning to focus and concentrate and experience deeply.
In India, for instance, this step you are describing is called "Dharana" and is very much valued by Yogis. Good on ya. You seem to be very good at it. But they have long recognized that this state is not meditation, which they call Dhyana. There is a very good reason why they have two different words for these two different states of consciousness.
What you do requires lowering the brain wave state to what is known as "Alpha waves". I am sure that if you were to get hooked up, your alpha waves would be off the chart when you are having your magic moments. I wish the neocons could experience that just for once. But what about
theta, then delta, and then finally below those? These brain wave states are what you will get into if you ever decide to take your journey just a tad further..........

Like the others who commented, I like all the alternative subjects. It so happens that my current interest is in the Electric Universe. But I am reading books on alternate states of consciousness, forbidden history (decoding the bible and so on), and the Holographic approach to experience (pretty mind-blowing).
Please keep doing what you are doing. You do it so well!

I was just wondering if anyone saw a show on the discovery channel a year or two ago about a mysterious hole in the middle of the desert(near Cairo i think) that when uncovered revieled a massive door with writing on it that did not apear to be Egyption, Either Russia or Germany were in control of it but the show said they were to scared to open it because of what interpreters said was supposed to lay behind, something about were we came from or something like that, anyway the area is resticted and there are warning signs around the area with 24 hour guard patrols.
The reason i am writing this is because i seen it and regretably did not take notes and have been wraping my brain around it ever since, so if any one has any info or knows what i'm talkin about please write back or to me directly.

Uh, Bellicose, are you sure this wasn't something you dreamed? From what we all know about Egypt, the government red tape, Hawass, etc. It seems impossible that:
1. The Discovery Channel would have been allowed into film it.
2. Hawass was not a part of this if it were true
3. That any foriegn country would be "in control" of it.
In other words, the Egyptian government basically sat there passively and let a foriegn television station come in and film an extremely mysterious and controversial "something" that would put a lot of heat on them, about an area that they willing gave up control of to a foriegn government? That really does not seem too likely.......but, of course, I do hope you are right.

I have been wrestling with the notion of a god for the better part of ten years, seven of which I was a hard line objectivist athiest. That perspective was fueled by my inability to wrap my head around a god that cared about the outcome of every little detail, and more, any or all of them. Another problem was that it was all good and nothing else. How could something create all this and only claim to be the good parts. Mind you, I'm oversimplifying for the benifit of brevity. The notion of a hell was, and is, absurd. My problem with ANYONE being at their core a malicious person. I always felt that regardless of a persons actions, they felt they were doing the right thing, and if they knew their actions were wrong, they must be suffering from something they didn't understand and were acting with intention to relieve it. I am just touching on few problems that this book is completely vindicating for me. In a sense, even when I was an athiest, I was looking for a SAFE way for myself to believe in a god. This book is helping me in that sense. Helping me to overcome the big empty in that department. ANYWAY, thats my current pursuit in interest.

Yes, I really like everything too.I've never been bored coming here, just annoyed sometimes that I don't get enough time to ponder all the interesting stuff.
There's so much to think about on this site that I am having to put stuff on stand-by all the time while I have a big think about one subject.

Huh! You live with 3 cats that sit and watch you sleep, and watch for you to wake up, and just watch you.
You need to have a real good sense of humour to live with that.If my dogs sat and watched me I'd feel very bothered by it.
When I wake up in the morning there is one small dog sitting on my face, and another small dog sitting on my chest, and I hear them whispering to each other,
"I think we killed her, she's not breathing".
Then the parrot arrives and they scatter.And the parrot walks all over me.
But at least they don't sit and watch me.

Is spirit and soul two seperate entities? Can one be aware of either? My hope is that forums like TDG will enhance our ability to explore the realms of the spirit and soul. Many topics here give me a royal blue window to search my existence. Shine forth brave souls. Respectfully, Dennis.

With all due respect to the history buffs, all studying history will ever ultimately do is convince a person that self development, by means of slowly developing the consciousness, is worth it, and is where our true potential lies. A person could eventually know everything about history, expose all the hidden "secrets" and still not have advanced one inch in development of their minds and psychic awareness. Such a person may find that what they were looking for in the study of history still, after all that time, eludes them.
This self development cannot be speed up by any "secret ancient knowledge", anymore than developing ones ability to play Beethoven or Jazz piano can be sped up by learning the secret knowledge of piano benches, and does not need to be. The mystics of the east, right now, today, are still successfully doing this, using all the ancient techniques you need to know to learn this yourself, and they will happily teach you.
Do you really want to learn some secrets? Secrets that will launch you into a world you have heretofore only thought about? Then study the meditation techniques of the masters of the east. You may even learn skillls that will allow you to project your consciousness backwards in time, to witness for yourself all the things that so fascinate you now.
What you will discover, as you learn to go deep past your subconscious and into the greater cosmic consciousness, compared to "knowledge of secret history" will be as is the light of the sun is to the twinkling of a tiny star.

I have to disagree with you about Eastern religions if you are referring to Buddhism.
I could never work out why those Buddhist monks wanted to sit around and just bore themselves to death.To me there is nothing glorious or enlightening about that.
Its a choice, like everything.
I think everyone's truth is different.My truth will not be your truth.Your's will not be mine.
If it works for you that's good.

I would like to just clarify 'Buddism', it is a philosophy of how to live not a religion. Same as taoists. Falon Gong is also a philosophy. Many believe these to be religions, and in a slight context of the word they could be called religions, but that is grasping at straws.
Mind you they are all passive teachings and offer a great deal in how to live with calm and serinity.
BTW...hope you voted to keep the old bridge. I never liked the new one. Used to see if I could drink a can of coke from one end to the other without spilling it....now that was a challenge..hehe

Well mate, that is sort of my point. If you tried it, you would know the answer to your question of why they do it. Surely you have learned that many things cannot be judged by their outer appearance. The consciousness is capable of many fantastic things, but these things require a withdrawal from bodily consciounsess in order to manifest. Obviously, such a withdrawal will make it appear as if the practitioner is doing "nothing", and "bored".
Meditation is neither a religion nor a "path". It is not a belief system, a philosophy, nor a politic. It is merely the act of shutting down of a certain spectrum of experience, the 5 senses, to see what else there may be avaliable to the consciousness.

to successfully meditate, one needs to tune all senses. By shutting down your 5 senses you are closeing avenues of sensation that are important to the overall exsperience of meditation. Understanding and then channelling those 5 senses in tune with the higher self is to meditate with much success. By success I mean to bring consciousness in tune with higher consciousness. eg;if there are seven circles, starting with the larger surounding all the pregressive smaller circles. Consciousness being the third circle from the centre. Consciousness then can only exsperience the 2 circles within. Only the outer circle can exsperience all circles within. Higher consciousness being the outside circle.
So as you can see, higher consciousness envolopes all other parts of the being. Shutting down internal proccess then excludes the whole from the full exsperience.
Your higher consciousness,(spirit,soul,astral being,aura.)whatever you choose to call it, surrounds all other states of existance.
Therefore you bring all states in tune, not exclude any one part.
PS. hidden history is a curiosity, we are curious.

I claim no knowledge of the secrets of the universe, psychic ability or any other such "I am more special than thou"-ness. But I have been meditating once or more times a day for 8 years now, and before that, quite often, so I am at least qualified to talk about the various ideas and techniques. I have explored and tried many, from both western and eastern paths, and still do this daily.
Indeed there are certain techniques used by mystics to focus and develop the consciousness that do require use of the five physical senses. I am very familiar with many of them, both eastern and western, and do practice these myself. But to claim meditation requires the active 5 senses to be "whole" (my word, but I think this is what you mean) is to redefine the traditional meaning of the term, something which I find is unfortunately quite common in the West with respect many eastern terminologies.
So, consider this:
There is a very good reason why the yogic techniques of the Yogis of the Swami order in India, such as Kriya, or many Buddhist techniques, esp. Tibetan and Zen, techinques, or the exercises practiced where I live (Indonesia) do, indeed, require shutting down all the five senses. The mystics in these traditions, the many tens of thousands of them praticing such techniques, trust me, are not in the dark (no pun
intended:) about what they are trying to do. They seem to be doing quite well on their own.
I do not believe that we disagree, however. On the contrary:
What you are describing is a very desireable state of consciousness, which is hopefully the end result of all the various methods available to us. I presume from your post that you yourself, regardless of what exercise or technique works for you, diligently practices something daily, and I salute that. I know how hard it is to stick with it, so accustomed society is to instant gratification.
Whether one sees a value in exploring these disciplines or not, is of course a personal decision.

Well, I am not convinced.I think meditation is something we do when we are not focusing on it, otherwise it becomes sort of artificial.
Meditation for me is sitting in my small garden and watching my parrot eat the flowers on the grevillea tree,and seeing only him and the tree and the flowers, and feeling the warmth of the sun and the tickle of the branches of the tree and being so lost in the moment that when I become aware of it,I know that for a short while I had entered another universe.
Or it can be when the dogs play on the bed and I become lost in the joy of their game even though they are jumping over me and on me,and I am part of it all.
I can lose myself in a moment by entering the sphere of the other creatures and being part of their world and seeing the part they play in my world.
There are lots of magic moments that I call meditation, but no I would not sit alone and try not to think.
And this didn't come easiliy to me, it took me most of my life to be able to do it, be in the moment and so totally of the moment that all else is gone.
When I was young, whatever moment I was in, I was already thinking ahead to the next moment.
Now I realise that the only moment there is, is the one that you are presently in.
That's what I call meditation.

What you are describing is great, something that by itself could save humanity if everybody practiced it I think. But there is indeed something else, something that goes deeper than that, which is traditionally called meditation. And in fact, what you describe is an considered in the East a very important first step - learning to focus and concentrate and experience deeply.
In India, for instance, this step you are describing is called "Dharana" and is very much valued by Yogis. Good on ya. You seem to be very good at it. But they have long recognized that this state is not meditation, which they call Dhyana. There is a very good reason why they have two different words for these two different states of consciousness.
What you do requires lowering the brain wave state to what is known as "Alpha waves". I am sure that if you were to get hooked up, your alpha waves would be off the chart when you are having your magic moments. I wish the neocons could experience that just for once. But what about
theta, then delta, and then finally below those? These brain wave states are what you will get into if you ever decide to take your journey just a tad further..........

Like the others who commented, I like all the alternative subjects. It so happens that my current interest is in the Electric Universe. But I am reading books on alternate states of consciousness, forbidden history (decoding the bible and so on), and the Holographic approach to experience (pretty mind-blowing).
Please keep doing what you are doing. You do it so well!
If I may make a suggestion: have a competition for the next subject(s) we could vote on. Then pick a few and use them. I dont know what prizes you could give though.

I was just wondering if anyone saw a show on the discovery channel a year or two ago about a mysterious hole in the middle of the desert(near Cairo i think) that when uncovered revieled a massive door with writing on it that did not apear to be Egyption, Either Russia or Germany were in control of it but the show said they were to scared to open it because of what interpreters said was supposed to lay behind, something about were we came from or something like that, anyway the area is resticted and there are warning signs around the area with 24 hour guard patrols.
The reason i am writing this is because i seen it and regretably did not take notes and have been wraping my brain around it ever since, so if any one has any info or knows what i'm talkin about please write back or to me directly.

Uh, Bellicose, are you sure this wasn't something you dreamed? From what we all know about Egypt, the government red tape, Hawass, etc. It seems impossible that:
1. The Discovery Channel would have been allowed into film it.
2. Hawass was not a part of this if it were true
3. That any foriegn country would be "in control" of it.
In other words, the Egyptian government basically sat there passively and let a foriegn television station come in and film an extremely mysterious and controversial "something" that would put a lot of heat on them, about an area that they willing gave up control of to a foriegn government? That really does not seem too likely.......but, of course, I do hope you are right.

How about the moon was closer
And, to go further, how about the giant sized animals became extinct because the moon was pushed away, collapsing the vital body because of reduced pull from gravity and making it impossible to allow more such gigantic animals to thread the ground.
Such push may have coincided with asteroid bombardment of the surface of the Earth.

I am currently reading a book that is really making sense in the god department, " Conversations with God." I have been wrestling with the notion of a god for the better part of ten years, seven of which I was a hard line objectivist athiest. That perspective was fueled by my inability to wrap my head around a god that cared about the outcome of every little detail, and more, any or all of them. Another problem was that it was all good and nothing else. How could something create all this and only claim to be the good parts. Mind you, I'm oversimplifying for the benifit of brevity. The notion of a hell was, and is, absurd. My problem with ANYONE being at their core a malicious person. I always felt that regardless of a persons actions, they felt they were doing the right thing, and if they knew their actions were wrong, they must be suffering from something they didn't understand and were acting with intention to relieve it. I am just touching on few problems that this book is completely vindicating for me. In a sense, even when I was an athiest, I was looking for a SAFE way for myself to believe in a god. This book is helping me in that sense. Helping me to overcome the big empty in that department. ANYWAY, thats my current pursuit in interest.
