More on the Anthrax case
Thank you very much for the praise, and for your contribution, emlong.
Here's more of my recent 'anthrax research', in case you're interested:
August 5: Government's purported 'Anthrax Killer' was a registered Democrat. (Big article with a lot of info and links.)
August 3: Washington Post Scrubs Friday Article that cast doubt on reported 'Anthrax Killer' case.
August 4 (with 5 updates): Additional key facts re: the anthrax investigation by Glenn Greenwald.
I've found several interesting timelines:
Remember the anthrax letters?
A few of the more interesting entries:
before September 11, 2001: In a story seemingly unreported anywhere else, the New York Post later claims that a series of hoax anthrax letters is sent out from Indianapolis, Indiana, at some point not long before 9/11. The FBI allowed the Post to see copies of these letters, which had handwriting and other features remarkably similar to the later letters containing real anthrax.
September 11, 2001: Some White House personnel, including Vice President Cheney's staff, are given Cipro, the anti-anthrax drug, and told to take it regularly on the evening after the attacks.
September 18, 2001: The first anthrax letters are mailed out, two days after the anti-terrorism bill Patriot Act is first proposed. But the anthrax crisis won't begin until October 4 with the first confirmed sickness.
October 1, 2001: The New York Times notes the "stepped up warnings on the spread of chemical and biological weapons" based on a number of statements from officials in the past few days. White House chief of staff Andrew Card: "I'm not trying to be an alarmist, but we know that these terrorist organizations, like al-Qaeda, run by Osama bin Laden and others, have probably found the means to use biological or chemical warfare." Representative Henry J. Hyde (R) says biological weapons "scare" him more than nuclear weapons because they can be brought into the country "rather easily." Rumsfeld, Ashcroft and others give similar warnings. Just three days later, anthrax attacks become big news.
October 10-11, 2001: The FBI allows the original batch of the Ames strain of anthrax to be destroyed, making tracing the anthrax type more difficult.Suspicions that the anthrax used in the letters was the Ames strain are confirmed on October 17...
October 14, 2001 (B): Investigators of the anthrax attacks believe Iraq is the prime suspect. One CIA source says, "They aren't making this stuff in caves in Afghanistan. 'This is prima facie evidence of the involvement of a state intelligence agency. Maybe Iran has the capability. But it doesn't look likely politically. That leaves Iraq."...
November 12, 2001: The beginning of numerous mysterious deaths of renowned microbiologists. (More about the dead microbiologists below.)
Recently compiled Anthrax timelines:
Timeline One -- more politically oriented, with links to sources, and several relevant additions in the comments section.
Timeline Two (updated)
Another timeline that focuses more on how widely the anthrax spread through the mail -- State Dept., CIA campus, the Pentagon, The Dirksen and Russell Senate buildings, Education Dept., Federal Reserve, and more -- even to Lithuania.
August 4: Mounting questions
Colleagues and friends of Dr. Bruce Ivins... cast doubt on the claims by the FBI and Justice Department that Ivins perpetrated the anthrax attacks. They have also debunked many of the claims made in initial news reports about Ivins’ death.
August 6: It was Ivins. With a Flask. 200 Miles from the Site of the Crime.
August 6: The Case Against Ivins, Search Warrant One.
August 6: The Anthrax Prosecutor: The Daughter of the Defense Attorney for BushCo's "Germ Boy".
August 7: Bioterrorism on a Grassy Knoll.
Years later, anthrax attack remains a mystery
Just for this bit of info not found elsewhere on the 'chemical additives':
Traces of silica, a substance used to keep spores from clumping, was found in the anthrax spores, which as a result were so fine that they drifted through the envelopes, contaminating other letters. The apparent refinement of the anthrax has led some to believe that it came from a secret U.S. bioweapons program, prompting speculation that the attacker may have been a government worker.
Another suspect? (Caveat lector regarding this source's anti-Zionist stance, although, to be fair, they view 'occupied Palestine' as being similar to the 'illegal US occupation' of the American Southwest, or 'Aztlan' as they call it.)
Feb. 26, 2002: FBI Closes in on Anthrax Terrorist: Prime Suspect is a Zionist
Jewish microbiologist Dr. Philip M. Zack may be behind the deadly anthrax contaminated letters that were mailed to NBC's Tom Brokaw, Senator Tom Daschle and others, according to FBI sources. In a rapidly unravelling investigation by the FBI, it appears that the "Arab-hating-Jew" was behind a vile conspiracy to frame a colleague who was born in Egypt and who worked, along with Dr. Zack, at the U.S. Army's Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases in Fort Detrick, Md.
Why this source thinks the Anthrax Terrorists may be Zionists. Photo of the threatening letter they received, which was never picked up for testing by police.
Same source: Anthrax Letter Messages Seem Contrived. (A Palestinian terrorist who wears a Star of David necklace? Hmm, that's interesting.)
To refresh your memory about those dead microbiologists:
Dead Microbiologists.
Dead Microbiologists linked to Ethno-Specific BioWeapons.
More Dead Scientists
'More' because this article also takes a look back at a similar set of circumstances that occurred fourteen years ago in the United Kingdom. Once again it involves the deaths of a number of scientists, some in "unusual" circumstances. This report was taken from The Independent newspaper of August 26, 1988.
Perhaps the most thorough article I found on this subject:
A Career in Microbiology can be Harmful to your Health
