I just found these animated shorts, and I think it would be of interest for the TDG community. They are part of a series called 'PerfectLand', directed by Benjamin Meinhardt for the Mtv network.
Coming from a source like Mtv, it does feel like a hypocrite message, especially since they are also sponsored by a cell phone company called boostmobile, and I guess the marketing wizards o Mtv have never bothered to study how enviromentally hazardous cell phones are —consider also that many of the music videos that run today are promoting some new hot cell phone, so they are indirectly imprinting the message of throwing your old boring 6-month-obsolete mobile to the trash can in favor of the newest gadget to the younger audiences.
Nevertheless, I really liked these shorts, and I think you'll enjoy them too. It's a nice reminder that if you mess with Motha' Neichur, she's eventually gonna have the last laugh...

Someone's Art?
Just because someone has the resources and talent to put together something like "Perfectland" doesn't mean they should. I also remember having heard a proverb that said "don't try to apply logic to advertising, it'll just drive you crazy". Realize that there's just so many markets for happy, happy, joy, joy animation. Some folks will produce anything just to get the work. You wouldn't want a violent sex offender teaching kids in a classroom...by the same token someone with deep psychological scars probably should not have the resources available to them to produce dark "entertainment" like "Perfectland". So far, we don't have psych screening for such people.
Not everyone's cup of tea
I admit that, lime many —if not all— things that come ou of Mtv, it's not intended to be liked by everybody. And believe me, there are some animation material that even I couldn't get my head around them sometimes —how many 'Beavis & Butthead can a person endure, anyway??.
But what I really liked about these shorts, aside from a very well executed animation in Flash, was that deep down it had an intelligent message —which, coming from a network that also produces "Jackass", is a rarity in itself!
It was very subtle this message, as if to get the young audience caught with their guard down, since I imagine a teenager can only get so much of Al Gore's rethoric after he or she decides to change the channel or turn on the Wii.
Besides, if you think about it. EVERY artist has deep psychological scars! That's why they became artist in the first place. And the level of dedication and perfectionism that Animation demands ensue that only very weird people end up comitting their lives to it. Imagine that back in the old days a very good animator could make maybe 5-10 seconds of a scene: that's 24 drawings needed for A SINGLE SECOND that is barely perceived by the audience! You think normal people do that?? :-)
And we should never rely solely on mass entertainment to fulfill the role of moral compass for our society; as I wrote before, the fact that these shorts are being sponsored by a company that makes something potentially hazardous for the enviroment —cell phones— gives it all a rather surreal tint. Also, behind those forms of entertainment there are people that are as bigot, biased & confused about life as the rest of us.
Even the greatest masters have made one or two works that do not agree with the changing & evolving moral standards of our present society; why do you think Disney has never released a VHS or DVD version of "Song of the South"?

Due to mother nature's copyright restrictions, I can't see this stuff in Canada.
