And I thought the initial news stories were bad - check out this steaming pile of excrement from Science A Go Go. It would be nice if people would have a clue before they write on a subject, really...

Bias, perhaps?
This kills me. If this were in any other area of science or medicine, it would be a minor story, a preliminary, non replicated study that doesn't really say much. But because it "debunks" something paranormal, the science media jump on it like a frat brother on a coed.
Why is that, I wonder? Could it be...anti-psi bias?
Bias?
That's no anti-psi bias...
It would be truly bias if those same media journals would suddenly refrain from printing their daily HOROSCOPE section, but I guess there's where they decide to give equal time to the alternative view right?
That is MEDIA-HUMPING my friend.

It bugs me that he's dismissing the "healthy OBE" as an unsubstantiated occult practice. I saw a whole shelf (about 4 ft) of OOBe books last time I was at Powells. Why not do some research or studies on folks who are good at doing OOBEs?
I think the researcher is falling into a trap by using loaded words like "spiritual" and "occult" when its really just looking into the nature of consciousness ---is it really an "epi-phenomenon" produced by the bio-chemistry of the brain or something else, more fundamental and perhaps not tied entirely to the physical body.
you have a point gb
If we ever look into how studies are done, I think we will find a lot of bias and preconceived intentions.
Loaded words.. don't you know it!
I took a psyche evaluation as a prerequisite to having a surgery. It was a relatively shorter version than they used to use. I took it and was frankly puzzled by some of the bend of the questions. I realize it is their desire to figure out if you are wacko or disturbed etc.
When I spoke to the psychologist she mentioned I wasn't very spiritual according to the evaluation. I told her the questions were about religion NOT spirituality. I am spiritual, but not religious. She understood that.
So called studies as this OBE one starts out wrong. I anyone really wants to know the truth, they look everywhere, not just where they want to.

really, you gotta laugh....
hi marissa. I had to laugh...the last time I spoke to a psychologist, she ended up crying. I have been accused of shattering peoples beliefs many times. Well, I only ask the questions!
As far as OBE's, my life is great because I know I can travel anywhere anytime and don't need a passport.

Funny
If all this is an illusion triggered by bio-electric signals, then all else must be considered an illusion as well, simply being the result of chemical and electrical interaction at the cellular level.
Therefore, their rationalization becomes the result of an illusory impression, that of consciousness, which of course does not exist as it cannot be seen as an entity in itself, and therefore is the result of a theory that cannot be falsified.
that is EXACTLY
what I was going to say!
more truth to that I think

but but
Maybe the polarity was reversed on just 3 particles? then what?
