Jerry Falwell dead at the age of 73
Posted by the shadow at 01:49, 16 May 2007The founder of America's Moral Majority has died.I have to wonder if he went to Heaven or Hell.
I betcha all the gays out there are celebrating. If you want to celebrate boys and girls come to my house and I will celebrate with you.
Just imagine someone setting out his morals for the country to follow.
And imagine the conservative Christians following them.
Makes you think.
Well bye Jerry. You took up more space than you were worth with your hate-filled declarations of moral standards for others.
I hope I see you on the other side.
Not!

Hi Shadows.
Long time no talk.
It will be interesting to see what sort of memorial will be built to mark the site of his remains, what selection of words are strung together over it, and if it becomes a site of pilgrimage.
I'd think a paraphrase of what you said would be appropriate:
"Still taking up more space than he was worth!"
Thanks, Shadows.
All Best, My Friend!

No we haven't talked for a while, but I read everything you write.
I am a lurker.
Falwell was like a melanoma.Rotten on top, and even more rotten underneath.
Unfortunately it is not a cancer that can be cured or even controlled.
All the best to you too my friend.

Organized religion has its facists and Falwell was one of them. As far as I am concerned, any Christian who uses religious dogma to further a political agenda is seeking an earthly paradise rather than a heavenly reward. And I consider myself a Christian. Remember, Jesus' biggest and most fatal problems were with the religious leaders of his day.

The headline on fark.com read...'Christopher Hitchins pisses on the still-warm body of Jerry Falwell'.
And he does.....beautifully.
I have no liking for Hitchins, a man who changes horses in mid-stream, but he's got it in one this time.
The video of Falwell shows a soft-faced man with an air of superiority who primps for the camera.
Anderson Cooper talks about Falwell's legacy.
Legacy?
He appealed to the smallness and meaness and jealousy of people who wanted to place their morals on others.
When will people, specially in the US folks, sorry friends, realise that these blook-sucking, arse-licking, self-satisfied, uneducated, gay-hating, witch-burning,fetus-fondling,6ft tall and 7ft up themselves SOBs don't have possession of the only truth.
Why are some Americans so willing to sell their hearts and minds to a moronic self-pleasing fat prick like Falwell.
The sermons go out.....the money comes in.
I have seen stats for western countries where the highest number of believers in God are Americans.
I don't believe this.
What I believe is that people in America are too scared to say that they don't believe in God.
You can't be president if you are an atheist, and yet why can you not choose to believe what you wish.
I don't care what people believe but I do care when they control politics and people with it.I care when I have to hear about it all the time.I care when I see people with little education giving money to these frauds to buy them personal jets.
I care when morons bang on my door with their message from Jesus that was found on a golden plate in the desert.
Pull the other one folks, its got strings on it.
I care when another lot bang on my door on Saturdays and tell me I will regret not asking God into my life.
Threats of damnation don't bother me, I've been hearing them for years. But how can governments allow people to do this sort of thing to others.
The superciliousness of the believers.....I am IN......you are OUT!
If I could piss on the still-warm body of Falwell I would happily do it but I can't, so I am pissing on his memory and all the other vampires out there.
And as for fark.com.Fark it!

Shadows, while I certainly don't mind people disagreeing with the 'legacy' of Falwell, I don't know whether these sorts of comments are necessary on an open and intelligent forum such as TDG. Keep in mind that we do have younger readers who visit the site. Thanks.
Kind regards,
Greg

that younger readers are not exposed to these sorts of words?
Where do you think I learned them from?
I hear this from the kids outside my house every day as they go to school.
And far worse.
Actually I was being restrained.I think the damage he has done to society in general with his bigoted behaviour warrants much worse.
But I am sorry.I will behave better.

I know that younger readers are exposed to that sort of language...and that many use much worse. That doesn't mean we should set the example. The simple point is, if there was a decent young teenager in a room with you, would you feel comfortable talking like that with them present? Personally, I wouldn't.
Having said that, it is your personal blog. Hence the title of my post 'A Request', not 'Do As I Say'.
Kind regards,
Greg

..and of course you are right.
It will not do me any harm to admit that sometimes I have a potty mouth and more often than not a rabid keyboard.
I will attempt to accede to your request for a little more decorum from me.

It didn't end up raining here at all. Maybe we need to put in a request for a Shadow dance?
Kind regards,

I know you didn't get much rain from all this dancing so I will have another go next week.
No dates or times will be mentioned.
But watch the skies!
This time I will ask Athena and see how she goes.Last time it was Diana.

{This is a highly edited version of my opinion of Jerry Falwell; because, my real opinion isn't fit to be printed as a response in a blog!:)}
Let us just say that if I was Satan, I would reject him; because, Hell is too good for Jerry Falwell!:) How dare you imply that he might go to Hell!:)

I think you're right cnnek. One can only hope that as time goes by people will see through those who wish to obtain power by controlling their thinking.

The answer is education in certain areas of psychology. Mind control is a very learnable technique, unfortunately! People need to learn what to look for and how to counter it; because, fortunately, it is a very counterable technique. Most of the time, simply not responding works; because, in order to be effective, most mind control techniques require a response!

Like Shakespeare said, we enter the world stage, play our part , and out brief candle or something akin to that. Jerry got his allotted 15 minutes plus of fame ala Andy Warhol. Did Jerry plant a cross on yer lawn or somethin' similar, just to make yer day? just wonderin'...

He planted a bloody great burning cross on all the front lawns of America.
He told people how to live their lives and for whom they should vote.
He interfered in private matters between couples and in the affairs of parents.
He involved himself in international politics in the name of religion and received his own lovely personal jet from the Israelis for doing so.
He sat back, pink-faced and smug,in his last interview, and asked God for another 20 years of life to continue his work and God struck him down a couple of weeks later.
Falwell's legacy is an America where people can not admit to being atheists, where religion is part of the political structure of the land, where your whole political life hangs on your stance on abortion, gays, and a whole heap of other things that are no one's business but your own.
He helped to make the sick quasi-religious ballyhoo that has become politics in the US.
Falwell had more than his 15 minutes, he had his 15 plus the 15 of so many others who should have been heard but weren't because of his blathering and boasting of his hot-line to God.
And you got two different Shakespeare plays in one line.

people can admit to being atheists, or muslim, or buddhist, or communists, or anything else in america.
And they do that loudly sometimes.
Having said that, I never liked Falwell or his born-again ilk, they are very destructive as Shadow says. But the damage will not be permanent.
However I believe what he personally deserves is to be ignored. If that.

I actually meant away from the US. I ain't been there for a month of sundays or more as the saying goes, in my case it be 40 years. He never made any impact on any agnostic EU country, that I know of. He was seen as a shill, touting for Israel. Even where I have kin in the U.S, away from the bubba-belt, or bible-belt areas where Falwell and his crowd held sway, he had limited appeal. I doubt he ever went into a black or hispanic ghetto and got very far, either, he was a W:A:S:P if ya get my drift. I wasn't aware that 0z toed the Falwell line, do you have his kind of adherents there as well?
He, Pat Robertson, who ran fer Prez and a few other hi-visibility bible-thumpers dance to the tune of who pays the most. If Israel makes an offer Falwell can't refuse, ya know he'll do a Jeltsin Jig or whatever Jeltsin was attempting in his rock n' raunch heyday.
Oh, by the way as I was posting before, I heard a Elton John tribute to Diana, the bit about a candle in the wind gave me the connect to Shakespeare, So I ran them 2 ideas together since he wrote them. I'm too lazy to have to quote play, act, scene, line or speaker of a specfic phrase Shakespeare cranked out.

If I remember correctly Falwell was the first of the television God-botherers and paved the way for the great steaming heap of them that now pollute the airwaves.
It happens here too.Australians of all ilk fall over themselves to follow America.

In EU the swedes go out of their way to be the latest with all things americana. They have their own Jimmy and Tammy like scandals complete with bumping off ex-spouses, etc. They have a group called Livets Ord that would absolutely brings tears of joy to the bible-thump crowd. 0ther EU countries usually downplay the Falwell-like schtick. I came across a web posting on either Rense. com or Orlin Grabbe where a UK theologian sez 95% of Brits are on their way to hell.. I guess he's trying to drum up biz for a revival there just waiting for a Jimmy and Tammy, a Swaggart, whatever to happen.
But when you mention 0z getting into things americana, why that's downright depressing. I mean youz guyz have marmite-excuse me vege-dyna-mite, or what ever secondary blast effect it arouses, that puts you folk in a world apart like yer UK marmite counterpart. I hope yer not into the absolute worst of all things americana-like- super size me dude. Do you folks have a protestant work ethic that takes on a life of its own, like in Germany?
There is a folksy expression in Swabisch area around Stuttgart, that goes, schaffe, schaffe hausle baue. A loose translation is, work yer butt off yer entire life, build the house of yer dreams and then die in it. Now, would you consider that the ultimate life experience? If you know any native german speakers, get their take on that expression, I'm sure they'll see the irony in it, if they lived in 0z for a while. Its kind of hard to bung on a barby in Germany if yer whole life is focused around building the house and garden to put yer fired up Weber on.
