OUCH!

No. This picture is NOT photoshopped...

This unlucky fellow is bull fighter Julio Aparicio Díaz, after receiving a rather unpleasant intimate acquaintance with Opíparo,  a half-a-ton bull from the Juan Pedro Domeq cattle ranch.

My dad says that, when I was little, he told me he couldn't wait to take me to my first bull fight. He says I whole-heartedly refused, which obviously disappointed him —the first of many, I'm sure.

I wonder what kind of explanation you could give to your son if he got to watch something like the above picture, though...

Could have been worse. Or could have been at a time when they didn't have good surgeons.

I take my hat off to the bull. especially being so small! The bulls deserve a little payback.

Love to see these guys fight a frisky, young Santa Gertrudis. Most of these are well over a ton. I sold one 3 years ago for 26000au at 1450kg and only 2.5yo.

I really don't like any form of animal cruelty.

Bullfighting is a disgusting torture of animals. The man chose to go in there and torment the beast - the bull didn't get to choose.

I always root for the bulls. They're literally fighting for their lives.

Why I don't like Hemingway. Graphic descriptions of bullfighting. Eww.

And silly people who run with the them. Me- I want to run with the cats. House cats. Big cats, I would be their dinner.

Fox hunting also seems utterly ridiculous and pointlessly cruel.

In this world of synthetics, you'd think that they would make a realistic animal fur that doesn't involve killing an animal. Maybe we should ask the set designers on Pandora ;)

I don't know if fox hunting is all about obtaining fur. Rather it seems like an excuse to show off and engage in a pretentious elitistic ritual :)

Red Pill,

It is a pertentious elitist ritual. And, the disgusting purpose of this ritual is to kill an innocent animal, the fox, for the pleasure of killing it!

the truth of the matter is that the holes of foxes presented a DEADLY hazard to both horses and their riders.

Foxes would also eat household pets, as well as foodstuffs.

Some people still ride horses, and other people have pets.

i don't know if a fox could down a horse, pets yes. but what i think he means is that for the sake of "game" and being a "trophy" hunting is bad.

personally i don't mind if someone hunts and if they intend on eating the animal or using it as a resource, thereby not letting it go to waste or hanging on a wall in there house as a gruesome trophy.

Yeah. No doubt centuries ago a fox killing a farm's chicken could mean a real danger to a family's survival.

And it wouldn't surprise me if I learned that fox hunting is a rather dangerous activity for all participants, not just the foxes.

But that is irrelevant to the fact that fox hunting as a recreational activity for the European nobility is a rather abhorrent pastime to me. So if you see the Queen, tell her I must respectfully decline her invitation ;)

Epgrondine,

But, more importantly, are the foxes used for fox hunting guilty of the crimes of which you so blatantly accuse them. Have they been tried and convicted by a jury of their peers in a court of law? Where is your evidence that shows that these foxes that you use for Fox Hunting of the crimes of which you accuse them?

i have to cheer for the bleeding bull here. the torment by which these creatures go through before finally dying of the trauma is horrific and inhumane. even though it sucks to get hit like that and have a foot long horn jammed through your jaw, it's nice to see nature still has a "pay-back" mechanism.

sorry, i warned you i was going to be an ass. if i showed my kid this it would be a lesson in why you shouldn't do this to animals or in general. for anything, i would have been the kid who showed this photo to his dad in order to convince him why i didn't want to go to a bull fight.

Everyone knows where I stand on animal welfare & bullfighting -- if only the bull had hit the guy a couple of feet lower, where his machismo is.

That incident with the gored bullfighter, is the craziest f#?ing thing Stephen Colbert has ever Heard of :)

He still thinks bear are more dangerous, though. And yet I don't recall ever seeing a bear's claw coming out of some hunter's mouth... then again, I've never gone hunting :-P

Bears are somewhat more dangerous than bulls because of their dietary requirements.

Bears will actually eat you.

There's a reason that in Africa, water buffaloes are more feared than lions. Bovines are more territorial and stupider, hence they will charge with almost no provocation needed.

Water buffalo have been known to seek out and kill lion cubs to ensure that there are less predators for them to tangle with. Even though animal plant eaters (no offense to vegetarians) are usually not as intelligent, animals like the elephant, though equally territorial, are quite intelligent and seem to be able to recognize things in more detail than traditional herbivores, like cattle and deer. Elephants, hippos, rhinos, and buffalo are ten times more deadly than lions or other African predators. This may also be because during the heat of the day most predators are resting and laying around to conserve energy for a night hunt. Humans are day animals, so they will run into more creatures that require daylight to feed than with nocturnal predators.

We were starting with bears. I do grant you though that African bears are not a major threat to African humans.

Red Pill,

Most people don't want anyone to get hurt. Cruelty to animals in Bull Fights, Fox Hunts, etc. is in my opinion indefenceable. I know that you are from Mexico; because, your biographical information told be so. Maybe you like bull fighting, maybe you don't. I don't know and I'm not asking. I'm giving an opinion. The animal deserves a fair chance. Considering that the Matadore was trying to kill that poor defenceless bull, I don't feel sorry for him. Turn about is fair play!

People, people....

Before you post, please read the preceding posts and responses. If you really want to object to a subject but don't have time to read all the posts and responses, THEN AT LEAST READ THE ORIGINAL POST.

If you do, on this thread, you will see that RPJ opposes bull-fighting, just like virtually every poster on this thread.

Maybe we can put this to bed, now? After all, the pic is excruciating to see.

I was raised in a southern hunting family. If you want to curtail needless cruelty to animals don't try to "outlaw" anything. Just make a mockery of such violence. That is the most effective strategy.
