House Of the Rising Dead
Posted by emlong at 22:21, 10 Feb 2012The "House of the Rising Dead" episode of The Haunted ran on the Animal Planet channel this afternoon, and I was pleased to see it available on Youtube also. This is one of my favorite documentaries about a very haunted home in New Orleans. There is some excellent investigation of the role mirrors can play in haunting as transdimensional portals as well a plenty of interviews with the poor people who had the misfortune to buy this home without knowing of its history.

I just rewatched this after having seen it about 6 months ago, and it was as compelling as I had remembered. The closing cleansing during which a psychic feels a mirror vibrating in his hands as spirits are being ushered back from whence they had come got me to recalling a friend of mine who said he had a high school physics teacher who thought there were good phsyical reasons for mirrors to be regarded as potential portals and time like machines. I spent about an hour googling about to see if anything in that vein could be unearthed, but I found nothing that had the scent of the harder sciences about it. Perhaps some of you have a better idea about that train of thought?

I am bumping up this old thread about the paranormal aspects of mirrors in response to today's TDG article about mirrors. This is a really fine episode of "The Haunted." Interviews with members of a large family all reporting pretty much the same phenomena in their haunted house. Mirrors figure very prominently throughout and especially so at the final cleansing when the ghost busters holding mirrors could feel presences passing through the mirror upon exiting the home.
