Another point of evidence that they were not as stupid as originally thought.
They had time and tools to make necklaces, and the sense of beauty that makes
this seem like a good idea.

I'm too lazy to search for it, but I remember reading that some archeologists had found perforated sea shells, indicating that H. Erectus had a thing for jewelry as well.

Proving that the great motivator for human advancement (and quite a few conflicts as well) has always being the insatiable female craving for shiny pretty things ;)
