The Other Side Of The Food Story From China ! Or Is Dihydrogenmonoxide A Dangerous Chemical ?

There is plenty of room for debate; but, let's remember that most food contains chemical additives and that foods themselves are chemical compounds!

The autopsy reports for dozens of dead pets, and test results for hundreds of sick ones, don't lie. Pet food made in China was contaminated with lethal amounts of melamine -- that's a fact. It was serious enough for China to execute the food and drug regulatory official.
It's not just food -- cheap antibiotics made in China have killed dozens of children (this is also a problem with cheap Indian-made drugs). The fact is a cheap brand of toothpaste made in China was sweetened with a toxic industrial solvent.
This is a case of the pot calling the kettle black, China trying to portray itself as the victim. This article gives a better picture. It's true the West is just as guilty at poor food standards, but in countries like China and India -- regulations we take for granted don't exist (and are often ignored with the right bribe, particularly in India). And when I go to the local supermarket, 2 out of 3 products are made in China, or with ingredients made in China. So it's completely fair for the spotlight of consumer concern to be pointed at China, and they are in no position to play the victim card. China, like every other company on this planet, must put health and safety before profit.
But forget about Chinese made toothpaste. Have a think about what goes into cigarettes. The average person on the street will be angry about China's poor standards, and then light up a Philip Morris.

That isn't the point of the post! Nobody is defending the defects of the of Chinese products, not even the Chinese Government! I agree that the Chinese Government is trying to put things in the best light possible; but, behind closed doors, they are hopping mad about the corruption! And, more that a few people have been imprisoned or executed for it! You know about one of them; because, he caused major international problems. But, he wasn't the first to be executed. However, I also think that U.S. import inspectors and stores bear some responsibility for not checking the chemical content what they were importing or selling. In Japan, everything is inspected on a random check basis and no new products are imported without being inspected. I've been using Chinese alternative medicines and tooth paste for over 20 years and some of my foods come from China!
The point of the post is that there are also many good Chinese products that are not substandard in any way. Trust me, I'm not dead! In fact, there are more good quality products than substandard products; but, they are a little more expensive, not much. You get what you pay for!
Contemporary Chinese Communists are Chinese Capitalists that call themselves communists! They know that exporting substandard products is costing them billions of dollars in foreign trade revenue and they don't like it! So, they are doing very much about it!

Well shoot, I had to log in to that and what ever so I did not do it. Maybe you can paraphrase what all was being said for some of us who are notlogging in to the New York Times...
THe tobacco companies put their special recipe of ingredients in their cigs so the consumer is addicted to that particular brand and they must buy it as they actually experince withdrawls that are at times worse then opiate withdrawal. I think that is very bad they do that to consumers. WHat gets me is that people can slowly switch to organic and not have those chemicals and not go through the terrible withdrawals..but, most smokers crave their brand so much they can not help them selves..it is sad in a way.

I didn't refer to the U.S. Tobacco Companies; because, I don't keep up with the U.S. Tobacco Companies or any other tobacco companies. I smoke Japanese cigarettes. But, the Japanese Tobacco Companies probably do about the same thing as the U.S. Tobacco Companies do. In Japan though, the Japanese Government has very strict rules about what chemicals can be used or, more specifically, what chemicals can't be used. I'm sorry that I can't help you more on this issue.
