McShorts Debacle

A recent article in the Courier Mail (a respectable source for alternative and offbeat news in the State of Queensland) refers to a spokesperson for a certain moderately-paced food chain (who may otherwise remain nameless). This spokesperson has taken a stance of brazen audacity by announcing that the company she represents wishes to "protect" public use of the surnomial prefix Mc.

I would hate to disappoint this particular company, but there are many people in this world with surnames beginning with Mc and Mac who have not and will not surrender to the corporate Donnie clan. I, for one, will continue to wear those letters wherever I bloody well like.

Is that true Ankh?
Of course with you we never know if you are pulling our legs.I don't bother reading the CM anymore. It is a rag.I have had 2 major fights with them..the first one when they supported Howard brown-nosing Bush on going into Iraq and the second when they printed a photo of a model in a slinky outfit and the model could not have been any more than 10 years old.I was sickened. That is child pornography and I told them so.
Anyone with a bit of sense does not read the CM.
I believe you are talking about the hamburger chain?
Well, they just cannot claim to own something like that, it is ridiculous.Although in a world where someone owns the gene for breast cancer I suppose you can do anything.
I will try and find a reference to it and write to them.
I don't know where you got the idea that the CM is a respectable source for alternative and off-beat news.It certainly is not.
It is very main-stream except when they are brown-nosing Howard.

I remember a few years back when a small shop-keeper at the Gold Coast or nearby got into trouble with them. His name was McDonald and he sold hamburgers which he had done for many years. He put a sign out the front of his shop saying McDonald's Hamburgers and I am pretty sure that McDonalds made him remove it.It went to court and I'm sure they won and he had to remove the sign.
I remember the Disney company a few years ago taking on a few kids who had dressed as mickey mouse etc for a dance recital and refused them permission and threatened to sue.
What is the world coming to.
I don't know and no, I don't want to know.

The story is true. Unfortunately for the golden arches, the person who is sponsoring the football team that wears the logo McBrats on their shorts is a lawyer and is prepared to give them a fight.

True also are the comments about the courier mail. The paper is full of such bull##it, it even sours fish and chips that are wrapped in it. This paper is one of a few that refused to accept advertising for the doco on the Fox news network, because they are owned by the same person. Unfortunately for readers, this is the only newspaper in the state.

And whilst mentioning crap publications, I am off to buy the sunday version of the same paper, the sunday mail. Why, because it is the cheapest way to buy a paper copy of the TV guide for the next week.

What can I say ... in a world of rampant silliness, the Courier Mail has remained over the years as solid as the rocks of Gibraltar ... it has consistently provided a virtual paleolithic hailstorm of alternative news and in-your-face honest journalistic endeavour. It rocks ... almost as much as the sacred ascension of Bon Scott in Kirriemuir, Glasgow circa April 1997.

I would also like to point out that the journalists of this fine broadsheet are not inclined to spend too much of their valuable time sniffing around the tanned starfish of little John. They have better things to do.

The Courier Mail is not the only newspaper in Queensland. For a beginner's list, you might like to have a look here. I would also dispute the idea that the CM sours fish and chips. It is more likely that the CM actually enhances the taste of fish and chips with its inky embrace ... somewhat like the taste of blue octopi dipped in tartar sauce.
