What do you believe, but cannot prove?

I just read that a bunch of scientists were asked this question. Well, how about all of you Daily Grailers? What do you believe (and why) that you cannot prove?

Hi Terrence,
Well, I suppose I believe that there is a creator who created the earth and the universe etc, although I don't see him as a personal god, but more as an entity or a force.
Of course I can't prove it but then I don't need to.I believe it.
There is an incredible pattern to the cosmos, everything leads back to everything else, and where there is a plan, there is a planner.
Another thing I believe is that there is more to the universe and even to life on earth than we could ever imagine in our wildest dreams.
Which is why scientists annoy me when they say things couldn't possibly be.How do they know they couldn't?
I also know that a rule of the universe (god's rule if you like) is that we should treat others as we would like to be treated.
I also know that every creature under the sun has a place on this earth and to exploit those creatures without considering that they belong as much as we do is wrong.
I suppose you would say these things cannot be proven and they can't in the normal way, there is no mathematical formula that tells us to respect others. So although I can't prove them I know them to be a dead-set truth.
There are probably a lot of things I believe but cannot prove but those are the important ones.
I also believe in equal opportunity for all people and I believe that governments should make sure they get them.It will never happen because not enough people believe in it but it won't stop me from believing it.

I don't believe in religion but I certainly believe in faith, whether it is faith in a god or faith in oneself or just faith that the cosmos knows what it is doing even though we cannot see it happening.
These are all intangibles so they cannot be proven but it is better to believe in something than to believe in nothing.
In my humble opinion.

I believe that humans have the capacity for telepathic communication with each other and with animals. I believe that the exploration of Psi and Consciousness are the great frontiers of our time.

I believe that Finland ought to be given the opportunity to be the world's next superpower (although I cannot see this happening in my lifetime, I still recommend all eyes on Finland).

I believe using the word "God" in a sentence, whether spoken or written, is like wearing a prophylactic amulet or carrying a personal talisman ... use of the word "God" wards off evil spirits and keeps people protected. It also keeps God happy to know people are still chattering about Him. I believe the real God used to live in Norway but packed His suitcases years ago and moved to Finland. I believe God left the Middle East almost 2000 years ago and that He still hasn't had the opportunity to visit Texas or Adelaide.

Hi Ankh,
I'm happy to agree with all of that but need some explanation on the Finland/super power bit.
Yes I accept that the real god used to live in Norway..why not!
And no, he certainly has not had the opportunity to visit Texas or Adelaide yet.
Adelaide, city of churches, and Texas, home of the troll lord, certainly need a visit from someone, whether god, or purporting to be god, and preferably with a good dose of salts in his pocket.

I thought I might take three steps forward and two thirds of one step back ... even then I thought it might be semi-appropriate to wonder ... have you ever heard ... or enjoyed ... the song Moonlight Shadow by Mike Oldfield? The lead break in that song (IMHOTEP) compares very favourably to the lead break in Pink Floyd's "Wish you were Here" (even if the members of Blink_182 wished that you had instead been there. )

Sadly, I find Oldfield's Tubular Bells as a mind numbingly boring album ... just a personal evaluation. Therefore I have thrown it into my assigned "pit of worthlessness" ... same as I did in 1996 with Ramon Palonski's movie Space Odyssey.

As for Finland ... Michael Palin wrote a beautiful poem about this land of oft-forgotten beauty. Michael's words, inspired from heaven herself, can be viewed here: Michael Palin recommends Finland. Finland (75% of dolphlundgrins voted "yes") is a land of purity, spectacular panoramic views and is so close to Poland that it is almost Catholic. See

taurus studies.

OK, here is what I believe. You know how we may look at scenes of visual beauty, or listen to beautiful music or sounds, how the experience can make us feel. Well I think that God ‘sees’ love as being beautiful, as much or more so than scenery or music may be to us. So part of the purpose of the creation (including humankind) may be that it and we can be thought of as a substrate to receive God's love and to be acted upon by it, thereby giving God the pleasure and satisfaction of seeing increasing beauty come from his efforts. All real beauty and all true love is made possible by God. Therefore, the highest purpose of our creation is to perceive, accept, and return/reflect this love to God, and share it with our fellowman. Thus we may lose our 'self', not to nothingness, but to the the glory and fire of God's love. Not in self-willed and deluded fanaticism, but in the deep and profound understanding that although God is Almighty, yet He is Love.

Justice, Truth, and Love, are the three fundamental aspects of God’s character – together they compose the full white Light of God. If we love these, then we love God. If we are not loyal to these elements of the Light, we are not loyal to God. Because God is Justice, God is Truth, and God is Love. Without these, everything else is meaningless.

I believe that though there have been those that have taught some forms of light, Jesus is the personification of the Light, the Son of God, perfectly demonstrating and fulfilling the Love of God as the Word. By recognizing and accepting the Son of God, we come into union with God, and enter the process of coming to know Him. As God's Holy Spirit flows into our spirits, minds and living, we become not ascended masters or avatars, but children of God, and heirs of eternal life, which will be beyond our present imagination.

This is the core of what I believe. Yet, being human, I do fall short, and am far from perfect.

First, I ought to apologise for my previous posting where I suggested Finland was greater than God ... what I meant to say was that Finland is more blue than God and slightly less communist than Jesus Christ. On a flatter note, I found a picture of Pekka Ervast that looks so much like Greg Taylor that both my spirit guides politely invited me to wonder whether Greg is not actually this Finnish Mystic reincarnated.

In response to Tronicus, I wonder if you have read any of the works of Søren Kierkegaard? If you are serious about the search for truth, you may find Kierkegaard's "Fear and Trembling" a helpful book to read. As for your penchant for justice, I believe it's a Libran concept.

Yep, that's Greg.
I checked to make sure but that's him alright.

As to your penchant for all things Finnish, Ankh,my granddaughter married a Finn (?) and she has 3 kids.
Will they also be bluer than god and less communist than Jesus Christ?
I need to know so I can buy their Christmas presents early this year.

No doubt.

There is a paper outlining the Olde Norse conception of the Afterlife written by Hilda Roderick Ellis at Road to Hel.

Readers of the Daily Grail who research anomolous phenomena may also wish to start preparing papers for

ParaDigma 2005: The 4th Finnish Conference for Scientific Research into the Paranormal which will be held in Spring.

I consider myself to be a spiritual person, was raised in the church......but, have grown to not be able to believe in "manmade" religion. The more I read and study, the more I realize that most of the scriptures and informaton regarding religion comes from "man" in some form, much of it political. However, have come to believe that all of the religious figures; Jesus, Buddha, etc are preaching the same message...that God can be found within not without. That finding God is a search and not an easy one. It is the seeking that matters. Some of us get further than others in that search but to evolve spiritually, we must all enter the search in an earnest and a humble way.
