Project “KasaUovo” (EggHouse) by Roberto Casati, brilliantly developed together with a team of young professionals: Mark Puggelli Architect, Engineer Matthew Puggelli and David Santangelo.
Is a module housing with the outer shape of an egg and traditional internal geometries. A prefabricated structure consisting of geometric forms that connect quickly to each other. As a fitting kit.
Is a project that blends perfectly with nature and at the same time embodies the most modern engineering concepts and economic sustainability: energy efficiency, recovery and recycling of water, thermohygrometric comfort, versatility of design, seismic safety, low operating costs and execution.
During the design team has reconciled the appearance of the curvilinear shape of the egg with the obvious needs of a modern home. The solutions are based on a double membrane, internal / external, fixed on a special foundation to the ground and stuck to the top . The inner membrane form a regular polyhedron. The outer membrane is egg-shaped.
The structure is designed for proper placement of network services (water and electricity) and his concept of environmental sustainability appreciable since the external form: the geometry is very close to the egg, in fact, the perfect form of energy, the sphere, characterized by maximum volume contained in the minimum surface dispersant. There are various technical and design solutions, such as the "shell" exterior insulation, double membering that functions as a ventilated wall or an integrated wind and solar energy recovery in coverage. It 'also provided a system for recovering wastewater and those meteoric.
everything is designed as a mounting kit: windows, doors and internal geometries are in fact fully customizable layout and number, and make KasaUovo adaptable to various uses.
The main features of KasaUovo are:
- prefabrication and modular construction and low cost of implementation, customizing the arrangement of openings, customization of the interior.
- Saving energy (passive house) exterior envelope insulation - sound insulation, heat-reflecting windows, wind energy production and solar energy, condensing boiler, waste water and rainwater recovery, for ventilated wall thermohygrometric comfort.
- Seismic structure in order with the latest earthquake regulations.
Drawings, measurements and projections are approximate.
KasaUovo can be developed in various sizes.
KasaUovo Team, Prato, Italy.

It sure looks like an ingenious project... but I seriously doubt it will ever be brought to reality.

You have to understand. Open any specialized architecture magazine, and chances are you'll find at least one wild and unorthodox project such as this one, devised by a young architect or a startup firm.

The main purpose of these projects is NOT to complete them, but to use them as free publicity for the young architect or the startup firm. A way to yell to the world "hey, look how smart I am!"

Many times these young architects are only trying to show concepts of novel ideas, to show they can think "outside the box". Architects LOOVE to do that, you know. But often times they have no idea how to start solving many of the problems their little project face —that's the engineers' work, you see?? ;)

In the end the always get what they seek. Not to change the world, but to get enough attention so a rich patron will come and say "hey, got more of those wild ideas? you see I'm looking for someone to build me a weekend cabin..."

Meanwhile, people will still live in houses that are not remotely like an egg.

I'm sorry if I sound too cynic. But after 10+ years, in the business, I'm no longer that optimist.

And I have a deeper respect for the unsung heroes that actually try to find a way to bring the ideas of the "genius dreamers" close to reality.

PS: then again, if these Italian architects ever build an entire egg-shaped neighborhood, I'll be the first one to fly over there and EAT one of the houses :-P

It's not the depth of the rabbit hole that bugs me...
It's all the rabbit SH*T you stumble over on your way down!!!

Very realistic...you remember some of my teachers of art school.
It is true that often what you say is right: many people says to be creative instead are just smarter ;-)
But I like this project: a village of EggHouses is not so bad :-)
