- Enigmatic Tablets
“The enigmatic tablets on show in Cavriana (MN), Italy
The enigmatic tablets, stone or clay artifacts dating back to the early and middle Bronze Age (ca. 2100 - 1400 b.C.) that have been haunting prehistorians for over a century, are now, and until December 10th, on display at the Cavriana Museum in the Northern Italian Province of Mantua.
The variety of names used to designate these objects, such as Stamped tablets, Brotlaibidol (bread shaped idol), Tonstempel (stamps), or Tokens, betrays the lack of certainty over the use of these small objects which have been unearthed mainly in an area comprised between the North of Italy, the Carpathians and the lower Danube Region.
Among all these conjectures, one of the most accredited is the one made by the Italian archaeologist Adalberto Piccoli, director of the Cavriana museum, who says that the tablets were probably means of communications used by different communities involved in trades and metallurgy activities.
See the website dedicated to the study on the tablets for further details.”
