I'm dreading that I'm going to gain a lot of weight this holiday. Like many places Xmas eve in Mexico is an eating marathon, we not only have turkey and all that, but a lot of traditional dishes like Romeritos and cod fish. How will I fit inside my pants??

Here in Italy the Christmas and Easter are big eating marathon! But now in Italy there is a heavy crisis, so seems that this Christmas will be more unassuming…
All to be on a diet ;-)

i havent read all those links but will.

yummy Panettone, roman nuggent - hard torrone, chesnuts, all those cookies and pastries,

you mention st nick - in dad's hometown church was named
"San Nicola di Bari"

i felt bad to hear in late 1960's church remove saint nick status from a saint because they felt he didnt deserve it.

but what he did was so good and noble -
he would give dowery to girls in poor
situations so they would avoid turning to streets and selling themselves. basically he wanted the poor to be respectable and raise good families - and not be force to sell themselves do to economics.
