I'm a fan of C.S.Lewis - and I loved the Narnia stories when I was younger. I was always told that the characters in Narnia were an allegory for Christianity, with Aslan representing Jesus. However Lewis never said this himself; what he did say was "what might christ become like, if there was really a world such as Narnia". But like Tolkien, Lewis included images from pagan mythology in his work, and later said of it: "it contained elements which my religion ought to have contained and did not" and described his youth as a time when "gods and heroes roared through your head, when satyrs danced .."
His adult science fiction is also truly great, I can recommend "The Dark Tower" (not a predecessor of the Stephen King stuff!) and his "Out Of The Silent Planet" trilogy.

I'm always a tad suspicious of Disney reworkings ... if anyone's seen the Narnia film (is it out now in the USA? We always get things very late over here), do let me know what it's like!
