OCTOBER 16: ASTARTE

Astarte is the name of phoenician goddess common to all semitic people, penetrated in the Greek-Roman world.
Astarte is identified: Aphrodite, Isis, Cibele.
In the ancient art she was figured as warrior goddess on the cart.
She is also called "Big Uterus","The Strong", Baalat (Lady), Queen of the Sky, Queen of the Women, Urania (The Heavenly), Athirat (Lady of the Sea), Holy Mother, Lady of the Waters, Vessel-Keeper, Lady of the Battle, Goddes of the Storm and Lady of Love.
The sea, the Moon, Venus are combined to her.
In the phoenician world is figured as Mother while - nude - holds her breast, or while holds lotus flowers, a disco or serpents, or while suckles a baby.
Astarte is combined to Winter Equinox and the Spring.
She governs the Friday, April and October.
The early fruits of the harvest and the first-born children are sacred to Astarte.
Her sacred animals are: the dove, lion, bull, horse and snakes.
Maybe the fishes was her sacred animals because in her temples there was fish tanks.
The Sacred Egg and the pomegranate (the fruit with the eggs) was Astarte’s symbols.
Her colors are: red, and white.
Her sacred plants are: acacia flower, the cedar, roses, alder, tamarind, cypress.
Her pa is Baal-Hadad, God of the storms, often figured as bull.

Astarte è il nome di una divinità fenicia comune a tutti i popoli semitici, penetrata poi nel mondo Greco-Romano.
Con Astarte sono state identificate Afrodite, Iside e Cibele
L'arte antica la rappresentava in veste di una dea guerriera, sul carro.
E' anche chiamata "Grande Utero","la Forte". Altri nomi sono Baalat (Signora), Regina del Cielo, Regina delle Donne, Urania (la Celestiale), Athirat (Signora del Mare), Madre Benedetta, Signora delle Acque, Guardiana delle Navi, Signora delle Battaglie, Dea della Tempesta e Signora dell'Amore. Il mare, la Luna ed il pianeta Venere sono tutti associati a Lei.
Nel mondo fenicio in statuette, bassorilievi e sigilli, è raffigurata come dea madre, mentre - nuda - si stringe i seni, oppure mentre sorregge fiori di loto o un disco o vari serpenti, o mentre allatta un bambino.
Astarte è associata con l'Equinozio Invernale e con la primavera in generale.
Lei governa il Venerdì e i mesi di Aprile e Ottobre.
I primi frutti del raccolto e i figli primogeniti sono sacri ad Astarte.
Suoi animali sacri sono la colomba, il leone, il toro, il cavallo e i serpenti.
E' probabile anche se non chiaro che anche i pesci le fossero sacri in quanto nel suoi templi furono trovate vasche per pesci.
L'Uovo Sacro e la melagrana (il frutto con le uova) furono anch'essi simboli di Astarte.
I suoi colori sono il rosso e il bianco, similmente al fiore dell'albero di acacia che è considerato un suo emblema. Il cedro, la rosa, l'ontano, il tamarindo e gli alberi di cipresso le erano anche sacri.
Il suo compagno è Baal-Hadad, il dio delle tempeste, principalmente mostrato come un toro.
