Shortage of Skepticism

Voted for George Bush because you think he's a patriot? Voted for Kerry because you thought the Dems would make a real difference? Think that parapsychology research is all a hoax? Think that all parapsychology research is above board? Think that the news is telling you the truth about the way the world really is? Think that Michael Shermer is a real scientist who doesn't have his own agenda to push? Think that Michael Moore is all about truth? Think that science can ever really explain the creation of the Universe? Think that God hates homosexuals?

Time to doubt more. Everyone believes they are right, and it's pushing us down a road to destruction. If humanity is to survive, then there is a very simple answer. Polar thinking must end, and people need to realise that the truth lies in the grey area somewhere and can't always be defined properly.

I'm not talking about 'skepticism' as we know it today. I'm talking about doubting everything you 'know'. Be harsh on yourself, and maybe we'll start progressing a little. Polarity will end in destruction.

However, I could be wrong...

Hi Greg,
Well I tried doubting evolution until Cernig shot me down in flames.
I have always doubted that religion has anything to offer.
I doubt that America's economy is going to hit a new high any time soon.
And I doubt that I will ever find the mouse head and entrails that are lurking somewhere in my house.

On the other hand, I am ready to believe that the Holy Grail will be found safe and sound in a little cottage in Cornwall, where the owners are using it to keep their car keys in.
I am also ready to believe that Zahi will take down the great wall on the Giza Plateau and invite scientists from everywhere to a big think tank in the King's Chamber.
And I would go so far as to say that NASA will announce that there is life on Mars and they knew it all along but were hoping we could work it out for ourselves, which we did.

And after all this doubting and believing I think I am a better person for it.
Or maybe I'm not.........but I get your point.

Oh dear, I think you've stumbled across one of the only things that you shouldn't doubt...that the results of the cat/dog hunt from the night before will forever be hidden, more so than any esoteric treasure.

Look out for the black vans pulling up outside your house Shadows...once you know the real truth in life you are normally a target.
;P

Aristotelian logic is the problem, Greg.

Either Rennes-le-Chateau is a hoax or it is a treasure site.
Either UFOs are all hoaxes or they are alien spacecraft.
Either Jesus was Deity or he didn't exist.
Either the universe was created or it has always existed.
Either you support George Bush or you are a "librul".

Stop excluding the excluded middle.

1. Perhaps a is F.
2. Perhaps a is not-F.
3. Perhaps a is both F and not-F.
4. Perhaps a is indescribable.
5. Perhaps a is indescribable and F.
6. Perhaps a is indescribable and not-F.
7. Perhaps a is indescribable, and both F and not-F.

Maybe it's just me, but I find Jain epistemology so much better than our own.

I believe Aristotle, in part, bequeathed this culture's intolerance for ambiguity and the possibility that on certain debates both sides might be equally right.

Hi Steve,

Comments I concur with. I might add "you're either with us or against us". I'm certainly neither of those two.

I guess we can always put on some Stealer's Wheel and dance the night away...

Great links Steve,
The first one should be emailed to every single media outlet in the world because it is by language that they control what we think.
The second one...well,Jainism to me is like any other ism, and although there is an attraction as you say, inevitably it becomes obsessive.
Thanks for the good read.

Everything should be examined and every stone upturned. The polarized thinking is hung onto the values that are the heritage of the ‘involutive process’ or, in other words, the descent into matter and the increase in mind density by material affection.

Even the concept of truth needs to be redefined since every word has baggage. Truth is more dependent on convictions that are in turn dependant on conditioned evaluation, mechanism that is the legacy of the veil that has been created to hold humanity in an experimental condition.

There is a need for honesty over conviction, integral honesty that is the final judge of reason, even that of the bearer. As it was said, we easily see the straw in the eye of our brothers but fail to even consider we may have something at all in our own, were it an oak tree, complete with branches, leaves and all the critters it may contain.

Human consciousness is so filled with, so made up of, so built upon a foundation of insecurity and so empty of ‘real’ light that we psychologically need convictions to give us an impression of a sense to our lives. To us, It does not matter so much how real the energy is, in this case false security, it rather matter if we ‘feel’ fine with what is said or expressed either by ourselves or by others.

We are content with feelings of feelings. We are in love with love, not with others. We are in love with our feelings and that includes the feeling or impression we have and like to have of ourselves. Impressions are just that: impressions, a function of a law of energy that we call memory and that can be used to condition and has no value in itself except for the polarized emotional value that we are programmed to associate to it through egoic insecurity.

We are in love with the invisible because of the relationship the invisible has with our mind process; we are in love with our tormentors because we are ignorant of the part they play in our ignorance and our experimental misery. We love them even though we know not of them because they are the tension and they drive the intension. They are what we feel while we love them what we love is the passage of their energy through our psyche which we feel as our own consciousness which is in turn so precious to how we like to feel about ourselves.

That love of feelings is the antithesis of what love is and, this impression which is a polarized energy, has at its flip side hatred which is the one turned against anything that would go against our conditioning and our image or reality. Most of the time this turns against the people close to us and against all not like us. This maintains equilibrium between cultural programmings by pitting ideologies against ideologies in order to maintain those Petri dishes isolated from each other but keeping them in a high state of potential confrontation. It also keep people busy with tasks that will never benefit them but will rather further enforce the stronghold those forces have on their destiny, which until the current ‘civilized mind’ is erased, will yet increase in power.

We want to feel right, we want to feel important, we want to feel truth and, above all we want to feel secure. When there is a disagreement, it puts the feeling of security in jeopardy since it has the potential, most likely it bears the ability to cast doubt in our theory of ourselves, which is based on the feeble construct of our conditioning and our adherence to values that we were taught but that never were integral to our reality since we even interpreted, philosophically or intellectually, what they meant without ever knowing what they were.

The polarization of the mind forces us into taking position, taking sides and associate with likewise ideas. This mechanism brings together souls of likewise evolution to support continuity to a cultural context in order to serve the evolution of the soul, or rather its progress and the refinement and astral elevation of its energy. On the other hand, it depends on the ego having no real authority on its life conditions and on the nature of itself. The ego never has suffered ills that were to his benefit since they were tailored to fit the progress of the soul. This is why the ego never really learned anything, never integrated its experience and was always thrown in an ever-tightening spiral of experimental stress, always outside of the territory of its control.

Until the ego realizes with great depth and certitude that it has been the puppet of forces that used it for the benefit of energies that needed a link to the material world and a mentality to support a life plan and put it into action to compensate for the lack of will of the soul by using torment and teasing to either repel or attract reactions in specific ways, he will not even have half of one foot into evolution and out of experimentation. It will also remain prey to the cultural programs that create the mayhem that surrounds it, supporting ever-increasing levels of environmental insecurity that will further magnetize its attention.

The human mind, through its polarity and despite its impression of accumulated knowledge, spiritual or technical, bears the seed of its own ruin, which is necessary to attain a clean canvas that will allow light to eventually penetrate. Humanity will not find its salvation through its current impression of its science, or through any of its impression for that matter, but from the coming of a true science of the mental and of the human psyche which will allow man to discover the veiled aspects of his reality and eventually and concurrently the possession of its psychic territory for the first time in its history, whether it had started on this planet or another one.

Nothing will be left of what he thought was real because the polarization of his mind will be eliminated to allow a real look on reality through the reestablishment of the universal circuits that make possible and natural the communication between his source and his experience, putting an end to his experimental subjective thinking mechanism and replacing it with objective communication.
