Basilica of San Lorenzo Fuori le Mura
Posted by plw12752anderson at 19:15, 25 Jun 2007After reading the article posted by Greg on June 21, 2007 (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jht...) regarding the archeologist in search of the Holy Grail which he believes to be located under the Basilica of San Lorenzo Fuori le Mura (which translates to Saint Lawrence outside the Walls) outside of Rome . I decided to do a bit of research into this specific location to find out the history of it and found these links below.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
This basilica is one of the seven pilgrimage churches of Rome and of the numerous churches dedicated to the deacon Laurence who was of Spanish origin. In the middle of the 3rd century, in an epoch of intensive persecutions of Christians, it was a depositary of the property of the Church, when Sixtus II and his collaborator were condemned to death, and distributed all this to the poor people. He died a martyr and obtained great admiration and devotion after his death. This explains the number of churches dedicated to him and the importance of his cult close to the place of his sepulchre, which happened in Agro Verano, in the cemetery of matron Cyriaca. In the 3rd century Constantine built a crypt with the relics of St Laurence, which later grew into a covered cemetery basilica of San Lorenzo.

Various photographs of the exterior and interior are also on this website.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Before the present-day basilica was constructed, the estate upon which it sits was once home to a small oratory built by Emperor Constantine I. The emperor built it over the site on which it was believed that Saint Lawrence was executed.

This website is in Italian (here is one for you Katya) so I wasn't able to read it but the photos are worth a mention.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
The portico, c. 1220, has Cosmatesque decoration by the Vassaletti family of craftsmen. The 13th century frescoes, which have been recently reconstructed, depict scenes from the lives of St Stephen and St Lawrence, both deacons and martyrs.
There are two ancient sarcophagi in the portico. Of special interest is a Christian one, possibly decorated in the 7th century on an older sarcophagus, with a relief depicting putti picking grapes. While vines and grapes are symbols of the Eucharist, this is not likely here. Two Romanesque stone lions were moved here from the old entrance.
The campanile was built in the 12th century. Just inside the entrance is the tomb of Guglielmo Cardinal Fieschi, died 1256, but entombed in an ancient sarcophagus, incidentally decorated with a relief depicting a pagan marriage feast.
The choir enclosure and pulpit has Cosmatesque decoration, and there is also a fine Cosmatesque Paschal candlestick made in the 12th or 13th century.
The antique Ionic capital on the column directly behind the pulpit has carvings of a frog and a lizard. On the triumphal arch are Byzantine mosaics from the 6th century, depicting Christ with saints. The confessio is below the high altar, and can be entered from the nave. Here, St Lawrence and St Stephen are enshrined. The latter was brought here from Constantinople by Pope Pelagius II when he restored the church. Behind the high altar is a papal altar with an inscription naming the makers, of the Cosmati family, and dating it to 1148.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
St. Lawrence was a librarian and archivist, and was responsible for keeping the records of the early church.
He was therefore believed by Roman authorities to have a list of the locations of the mythical hoards of gold held by the Roman church, as well as a list of names of Roman nobles who were members of the church.
Captured by the emperor's soldiers, St. Lawrence was given two days to bring all the treasures to the imperial palace, under penalty of death. Lawrence gathered up the all the diseased, orphaned or crippled Christians, brought them to the palace, and told the startled emperor, "These are the treasures of the church!"
According to tradition, St. Lawrence was later publicly roasted alive in Rome in the hopes that the influential Christian leader would renounce Christianity. Instead, he is said to have called out, "Turn me over, I am done on this side!"
St. Lawrence is thus often represented in art holding a gridiron, and he is also the patron saint of cooks. His feast day, August 10, is particularly celebrated among librarians.
The inside of the Basilica of St. Lawrence is covered in a variety of frescoes. Displayed on one wall is a stone slab with blood stain, believed to be that on which the body of St. Lawrence was laid after his martyrdom.

Interesting note on this site which says the catacombs are closed supposedly for restoration.
http://www.travelotica.com/travelguide/3...
... while below stairs, catacombs (presently closed for restoration) -where St Lawrence was apparently buried - lead a dank path from the pillars of Constantine's original structure.

Here is a drawing by Giovan Battista Piranesi (1720 - 1778) of the basilica as it appeared during the 1700's.

The Corpse Roads - Ley Lines
Posted by plw12752anderson at 18:58, 15 Jun 2007Ten years ago my first cousin got to take a long awaited trip to Ireland. She had sent photos of her journey there and was excited to meet up with all of us at Lake Guntersville for a family reunion near Boaz, Alabama. We sat in one of the restaurants chatting about her trip and I quizzed her on seeing the ley lines, and asked her did she walk down them and I had so many questions I was anxious to have answered. My sister interrupted the conversation with a sharp reprimand to me and asked me to just shut up about such stupid foolishness.
Well, contrary to my sister's beliefs, they are very real and have been around for a long time. In a recent article posted on ForteanTimes the history and archeology is discussed. Please, check out this informative article and many thanks to Paul Devereux.

Where the leylines led
Ever since Alfred Watkins announced his discovery of a network of ancient alignments criss-crossing the British countryside, the history of leys has been less of an old straight track and more of a long and winding road, one that has taken detours into everything from ufology to dowsing. Veteran ley hunter Paul Devereux sets out to map this remarkable journey and to see where it has taken us today.

THE BIRTH OF PARSIVAL
by
R. C. TREVELYAN
THE ARGUMENT
Titurel, lord of Monsalvat, Keeper of the Grail and Lance, the holy symbols of Christ's passion, fallen upon sickness and old age, by command of Kundry the prophetess, delivered over his sacred office to Frimutel his son, born to him in such chaste wedlock as is lawful to the king alone of all that consecrated knighthood. Therewith he omitted not to instruct his heir in all the mysteries of the Grail, and most earnestly to forewarn him that to none, no, not even to the king himself, are the delights of love permitted, except it shall thus have been expressly and in due season appointed by the Grail's divine oracle, that so for that high service there might never fail a pure and noble race.

Among the specific issues that Secrets of the Code explores are these:
Was Jesus married to Mary Magdalene and what do alternative gospel accounts tell us about their relationship?
Did the Church intentionally denigrate the role of Mary Magdalene in order to minimize the role of women?
Is Christianity as we know it a Roman distortion of the actual teachings of Jesus, designed to promote the Empire’s values of patriarchy and hierarchy?
Have we been mistaken for twenty centuries about the true nature of the Holy Grail? Could Jesus and Mary Magdalene have had a child together?
Did geniuses in the arts and sciences, such as Leonardo Da Vinci and Isaac Newton, belong to secret societies that concealed and continue to protect the most compelling “insider” information in history?

What my wife hoped for and what I expected was a film that walks you through the clues that Robert Langdon finds in the Louvre involving Leonardo Da Vinci, secret societies, and the Holy Grail. What we got, especially in the first half of this haphazardly constructed documentary, was a rather vague (and "out there") tutorial on the sacred feminine and general background on early Christianity. While there's some attention to the symbols, nothing is in order, nothing is explored in any depth, and whole paintings and clues from the book are omitted.

Note to Greg -
Susan Sarandon also narrates the Joseph Campbell Myth series.
Susan Sarandon narrates this series of documentaries created by esteemed folklorist Joseph Campbell. The series explains and illustrates his fascinating comparison of world mythology and how similar legends in cultures as diverse as Chinese and Native American can reveal fundamental truths of human nature. Mr. Campbell's theories and observations have inspired many artists and thinkers and his accessible way of presenting said theories helped make him both a groundbreaking and popular comparative mythologist. Contains the entire MYTHOS series. See individual titles for details.

OK - We watched it and enjoyed it. Nice documentary, gives some but not nearly all the facts that should be covered. It stuck to the framework of The Da Vinci Code to give the point by point differences. This could have easily been turned into a two disc set expanding on just a few of the themes.

Confronting Anger
Posted by plw12752anderson at 19:25, 11 Jun 2007I wanted to learn more about anger and fear, I set about reading and gleaning that information, as much as I could, from books, from people in the know and from the internet. There are many types of anger and in all I found ten that pretty well cover the gamut of these types.
This has been no small feat, scouring my resources, prying into minds to elicite answers. I fall into the very first catagory which is the anger avoider. The perpetual door-mat, it took a long time for me to pick myself up off the floor, dust myself off and gain perspective. Learning what boundaries were and implementing them. Hey, better late than never. This journey of much cost and many decades, I give free and willingly for everyone to learn from.

Anger Issues and Types of Anger
by Katy Marcus, M.A.
Excerpt -
Anger Avoidance:
These people don't like anger much. Some are afraid of their anger, or the anger of others. It can be scary and they are afraid to lose control if they get mad. Some think it's bad to become angry. Anger avoiders gain the sense that being good or nice helps them feel safe and calm.
They have problems, though. Anger can help you to survive when something is wrong. Avoiders can't be assertive, because they feel too guilty when they say what they want. Too often the result is that they are walked over by others.
Sneaky Anger:
Anger Sneaks never let others know they are angry. Sometimes, they don't even know how angry they are. But the anger comes out in other forms, such as forgetting things a lot, or saying they'll do something, but never intending to follow through. Or, they sit around and frustrate everybody and their families. Anger Sneaks can look hurt and innocent and often ask, "Why are you gettting mad at me?" They gain a sense of control over their lives when they frustrate others. By doing little or nothing, or putting things off, they thwart other people's plans. However, Anger Sneaks lose track of their own wants and needs. They don't know what to do with their own lives and that leads to boredom, frustration, and unsatisfying relationships.
Paranoid Anger:
This type of anger occurs when someone feels irrationally threatened by others. They seek aggression everywhere. They believe people want to take what is theirs. They expect others will attack them physically or verbally. Because of this belief, they spend much time jealously guarding and defending what they think is theirs - the love of a partner (real or imagined), their money, or their valuables. People with Paranoid anger give their anger away. They think everybody else is angry instead of acknowledging their own rage. They have found a way to get angry without guilt. Their anger is disguised as self-protection. It's exspensive though. They are insecure and trust no one. They have poor judgment because they confuse their own feelings with those of others. They see their own anger in the eyes and words of their friends, mates, and co-workers. This leaves them (and everyone around them) confused.
Sudden Anger:
People with sudden anger are like thunderstorms on a summer day. They zoom in from nowhere, blast everything in sight, and then vanish. Sometimes it's only lightning and thunder, a big show that soon blows away. but often people get hurt, homes are broken up, and things are damaged that will take a long time to repair. Sudden Anger people gain a surge of power. They release all their feelings, so they feel good or relieved. Loss of control is a major problem with sudden anger. They can be a danger to themselves and others. They may get violent. They say and do things they later regret, but by then it's too late to take them back.
Shame-Based Anger:
People who need a lot of attention or are very sensitive to criticism often develop this style of anger. The slightest criticism sets off their own shame. Unfortunately, they don't like themselves very much. They feel worthless, not good enough, broken, unloveable. So, when someone ignores them or says something negative, they take it as proof that the other person dislikes them as much as they dislike themselves. But that makes them really angry, so they lash out. They think, "You made me feel awful, so I'm going to hurt you back." They get rid of their shame by blaming, criticizing, and ridiculing others. Their anger helps them get revenge against anybody they think shamed them. They avoid their own feelings of inadequacy by shaming others.
Raging against others to hide shame doesn't work very well. They usually end up attacking the people they love. They continue to be oversensitive to insults because of their poor self-image. Their anger and loss of control only makes them feel worse about themselves.
Deliberate Anger:
This anger is planned. People who use this anger usually know what they are doing. They aren't really emotional about their anger, at least not at first. They like controlling others, and the best way they've discovered to do that is with anger and, sometimes, violence. Power and control are what people gain from deliberate anger. Their goal is to get what they want by threatening or overpowering others. This may work for a while, but this usually breaks down in the long run. People don't like to be bullied and eventually they figure out ways to escape or get back at the bully.
Addictive Anger:
Some people want or need the strong feelings that come with anger. They like the intensity even if they don't like the trouble their anger causes them. Their anger is much more than a bad habit - it provides emotional excitement. It isn't fun, but it's powerful. These pepople look forward to the anger "rush," and the emotional "high." Anger addicts gain a sense of intensity and emotional power when they explode. They feel alive and full of energy. Addictions are inevitably painful and damaging. This addiction is no exception. They don't learn other ways to feel good, so they become dependent upon their anger. They pick fights just to get high on anger. And, since they need intensity, their anger takes on an all-or-nothing pattern that creates more problems than it solves.
Habitual Anger:
Anger can become a bad habit. Habitually angry people find themselves getting angry often, usually about small things that don't bother others. They wake up grumpy. They go through the day looking for fights. They look for the worst in everything and everybody. They usually go to bed angry about something. They might even have angry dreams. Their angry thoughts set them up for more and more arguments. They can't seem to quit being angry, even though they are unhappy. Habitually angry people gain predictibility. They always know what they feel. Life may be lousy but it is known, safe, and steady. However, they get trapped in their anger and it runs their lives. They can't get close to the people they love because their anger keeps them away.
Moral Anger:
Some people think they have a right to be angry when others have broken a rule. That makes the offenders bad, evil, wicked, sinful. They have to be scolded, maybe punished. People with this anger style feel outraged about what bad people are doing. They say they have a right to defend their "beliefs." They claim moral superiority. They gain the sense that anger is for a good cause. They don't feel guilty when they get angry because of this. They often feel superior to others even in their anger. These people suffer from black-and-white thinking, which means they see the world too simply. They fail to understand people who are different from themselves. They often have rigid ways of thinking and doing things. Another problem with this anger style is crusading - attacking every problem or difference of opinion with moral anger when compromise or understanding might be better.
Hate:
Hate is a hardened anger. It is a nasty anger style that happens when someone decides that at least one other person is totally evil or bad. Forgiving the other person seems impossible. Instead, the hater vows to despise the offender. Hate starts as anger that doesn't get resovled. Then it becomes resentment, and then a true hatred that can go on indefinitely. Haters often think about the ways they can punisih the OFFENDER and they sometimes act on those ideas. These people feel they are innocent victims. They create a world of enemies to fight, and they attack them with great vigor and enthusiasm. However, this hatred causes serious damage over time. Haters can't let go or get on with life. They become bitter and frustrated and their lives become mean, small and narrow.
Anger is a tricky emotion, difficult to use well until you learn how. It is a real help though, as long as you don't get trapped in any of the anger styles aforementioned. People who use anger well have a healthy or "normal" relationship with their anger. They think of anger in the following characteristic ways:
Anger is a normal part of life
Anger is an accurate signal of real problems in a person's life
Angry actions are screened carefully; you needn't automatically get angry just because you could
Anger is expressed in moderation so there is no loss of control
The goal is to solve the problems, not just to express anger
Anger is clearly stated in ways that others can understand
Anger is temporary. It can be relinquished once an issue is resolved
When you practice good anger skills, you never need to use your anger as an excuse. You can take responsibility for what you say and do, even when you are mad.
The more you know about your personal anger style(s), the more control you will have over your life. You can learn to let go of excessive anger and resentment.

I want to always be considerate of others. I also want that same type of consideration and respect. To love others as I now love myself. Somehow our lives get derailed by situations we have no control over. These occurances deviate the healthy course of learning to live life. If unattended they manifest themselves in ways that not only puzzle us they confound others. It makes life hard or debilitating. Granted, it was a very real task for me, learning to love myself, learning where my fear came from and how that translated into fear and fear of anger.
It's like exploring some unknown world. Looking inside at oneself. Learning how to become authentic to oneself, learning to live in a whole new way, which is wholesome, healthy and good not just for me but for others. I will now fight my fear and press the mouse to click on the "Submit" button to post this. Another step in confronting my fear and the anger. Love, Pam
Contain Fear
Posted by plw12752anderson at 05:28, 25 May 2007Like tearing an article right out of a newspaper, I snatched the conversation through a cut and paste. It was the one with Richard and Dustincole, they were talking about containing fear. That day I wanted to save that scrap of conversation. So I did. I wanted to contain my fear. Not realizing that fate had a tidy suprise for me.
I met Heartsguy in town, he was going to buy me dinner. How nice, I had looked forward to getting out. I had to take back the movie that I had rented anyway. The one I had posted about. The priest who had molested the hundreds of children and got away free, living a life in Ireland of no consequence, quietly in retirement soon to be supplemented by a fat annuity. As if he had done not a thing wrong. It was chilling to see how he saw himself. It was sickening to view how he has caused so much pain and anquish. Not just to the victims, their families also.
The day was warm and the restaurant was not yet full. That was good. We would be seated quickly and would not have to stand for a long time. I tried something different, it was good and I enjoyed it. We had a nice meal. We chatted and people watched. We paid our bill and left.
Heartsguy was in the little car so he headed to it. I walked towards my car. Then I saw them. Together. Like spectres, ghosts of my past. Why here and why now? Oh, yes ... contain your fear. Here is the test. It was synchronicity bitch slapping the hell out of me. My demons, walking amongst us in the here and now and in the flesh. But these creeps were very real. Not imagined. I was an old lady, but again felt like seven years old. Seeing the man who was my pedophile, the man who had suffocated me to death. The one who denied ever doing anything to me for those ten years. My sister and her husband.
My heart was in my throat, panic was overtaking me. I held my head up and continued walking on to my car. He was now fat, his pot gut parenthesised by the straps of his suspenders, flat top and long beard. She was no longer black haired but silver haired. Both looked haggard, wrinkled and old. The look on my face must have alarmed Heartsguy and he shouted out across the parking lot "What's wrong?" I fumbled with my keys, I dropped them, I kneeled down to pick them up and motioned for him to come to me, staying low in hiding between the parked cars.
"It's them." I whispered, crouched over, hiding from their line of sight. "Them ... who?" he said walking quickly up to me and looking around. I told him. He said, "Just get in your car and leave. Don't look back. Go on and drop off the video and I'll meet you back at the house." I did. But the brief meeting had an effect on me. Meeting my quasi murderer and his accomplise, the abusers, not so good.
Contain my fear, observe it, see it as a mere flooding of the brain of chemicals. Flight or fight response. The containment was a complete failure. I had not responded with cool detachment. I was immediately swept up, hell no, engulfed! Then afterward beating myself up for not being calm and contained.
I didn't sleep at all last night. My body was still in a high vibratory rate. I could have mopped the floors, vacuumed the whole house and washed the car I had so much nervous energy. At least now I know what it is, for most of my life I didn't understand the reactions.
When Heartsguy awoke, I had already made coffee, was drinking my first cup out of his favorite giant oversized mug. "Where's mine?" He staggered in not quite awake. "Over there, I'm needing the big mug this morning." I quipped. He shuffled to the coffee maker and asked, "What happened, did you forget to go to bed last night?"
"Yes, something like that." I muttered, and wanted to expunge this pent up feeling.
"They can't hurt you anymore, like you said last night, they have already taken everything and there is nothing left to harrass you about. I'm not going to let you sit here in a stew about this. Go on to bed." he stated flatly.
"Then I will, I didn't do very well in containing my fear. I'm a failure there that's for sure." I stated wryly, sighed and then slumped into the sofa. Then I shot back, "It's something I would like to no longer be held in control of. I have these wonderful, good days and then the rug just gets jerked out from under me. I need to shore up my fragile baricades, their just shot to pieces at the moment." I was pleading to him but in reality asking myself if I could ever get over this. Knowing full well it was as much a part of me as anything. "You probabaly ... won't see them again ... for a long long time." he said through sips.
"Let's hope not." I said, getting sleepy, yawning and looking at the bright sun flooding in. I sauntered off to the bedroom and did sleep, but not well. In my dreams I was running and fighting.
