Phonehenge: Image Juxtaposing Ancient and Modern Technology Wins Photography award

The winner of this year’s British Life Photography award is the fantastic shot above by Elena Marimon Munoz, which juxtaposes the ancient megalithic technology of Stonehenge with the modern technology that is smart phones, both in the process of capturing a cosmic event: the summer solstice.

By the time the sun started to rise above the stones, hundreds, if not thousands of people, had gathered inside the stone circle, phones and cameras up in the air ready to record the magical moment,” says Marimon Munoz. “In the picture, I wanted to capture the mixture of ancient history and modern technology, fused together – past and present.

It’s an odd thing we do – rather than being in the moment and experiencing it, we want to somehow capture it in our tiny devices. A whole branch of psychology that could be devoted to answering why…

    1. Anyone else hearing the
Anyone else hearing the rumbling of a rumor that people are getting tired of constant connectivity? The other day I saw someone who had ditched their broken Iphone for a primitive old timey type cell phone (mine is a 2001 Samsung.) I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and hearing.

      1. old phone
Really? Wow. Mine isn’t a smart phone but it’s very old, like 2008 LG and I hate it. I want a smart phone just so I can have a better camera and be able to check my emails. I don’t have internet on my phone and the battery will probably be completely dead soon. I just don’t have the funds right now to by an expensive phone and get locked into paying it off, especially now that I’m unemployed.

I love my desktop and still feel claustrophobic trying to use smart phones for surfing. Still waiting for the flexible OLED screens promised a decade ago that might pop out like umbrellas to give a larger phone screen.

‘Anyone else hear’ is the old paradigm where cultures & ideas are limited by geography & certain Authorities & Gatekeepers, where ‘culture’ = ‘that which the mainstream thinks’

Now we have a human generation that, like fish in water, have been born in this environment

And they continue to come up with amazement after amazement

Now there are multiple mainstreams, changing all the time, mixing, remixing…

The global spiritual marketplace…HANG ON, HERE COMES HUMANITY!!!
