A Pale Blue (Animated) Dot

Now that the Doomsday hype is finally winding down, and in preparation to celebrate the coming of a new year which will be undoubtedly filled with both joy & suffering, I present you this: An animated version of Carl Sagan's famous text "A Pale Blue Dot". Created by Joel Somerfield of East London-based digital production house, Order.

As the challenges 2013 will bring might cause us to lose hope along the way, Sagan's wisdom remains as pertinent as ever, and his words reminds us why our tiny little world is worth saving.

really well done and I love it when typography is allowed to be as much a part of the art as it is art. thank for sharing :)

...I forgot how I got here but everyone seems to be heading off in that direction. I hope someone brought food. I have a feeling this is going to be a long journey................

Red Pill,

Instead of 4 movies about Carl Sagan and the Pale Blue Dot, I think that the Hollywood Bastards want to make about 4 more movies about Doomsday! Let's hope that I'm wrong! Prospero Anyo Nuevo!!! Happy New Year!!! Akemashite Omedeto Gozaimasu!!!*

2012 is ending on a very sad note (RIP Philip) but without suffering there's no joy.

Happy New Year to my Grailer brethren everywhere!

Indeed. Multiple thoughts and threads merge here for me. Between the tired, spent old year and the new, between the sadness of losing a kindred spirit and the joy in how much he gave us, between reveries of our pale blue dot and that Terra Incognita where with radical hope we trust he now finds the grand mysteries unveiled, I have Sagan's well-loved saying lurking in my little head:

"Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known."

Many thanks to the Grail admins for another year of unstinting awesomeness. For all of us, may 2013 be filled with wonder.

Red Pill,

How did you get the tildy over the "n" in "ano". I tried to spell "ano" phonetically "anyo".

It just occured to me, did you mean that Britian's Queen Elizabeth's husband Prince Philip died! New Year's Day, known as Gantan, is a very special religious day in Japan. So, most non-Japanese news doesn't get reported.

What do you think?

As for the "ñ", I guess one could use the character map on Windows ;)

As for the news, I meant TDG friend Philip Coppens, who passed away on December 30th.

sadly, you are right...hollywood is still obsessing over the 2012 doomsday prophecy, with some films to be released this year. all are over the top action, "it's humanity 's last stand" type films, with some of the threats coming from above, some from under the sea, and some from prehistory. it's odd that the films will be released after the earth's "sell by" date....with the short attention span of the culture, it's questionable how much interest the films will arouse, and if the world had ended, who would have watched the films... (had to endure watching the hideous previews while waiting for the latest tolkien fest, the hobbit.)

RIP Philip Coppens...out of everyone, i hear your voice......

after I finally got to see Prometheus, I found myself angry that that was the movie that caused del Tostito to cancel his marvy Lovecraft love story; Prometheus wasn't worth it in that respect for me.

I never really believed in that explanation. I simply think Guillermo lost perspective when everybody in Hollywood was willing to back his projects.

Horror has always been his first & dearest love on films, ever since he was learning the ropes with his small make-up company, making affordable effects on-the-go for a TV show titled Hora Marcada.

That's why I know that eventually he'll fulfill his dream of re-making Frankenstein.
