Just in case you’re eating calamari right now…

Quote of the Day:

Call intuition cosmic fishing. You feel a nibble, then you’ve got to hook the fish.

  1. Stairs
    My high school’s stairwells would have given him nightmares. They seemed endless and to a heavy set kid such as myself they were back breaking, especially when you had to climb them with all your books in the bag and right after lunch. Four flights to get to the upper classrooms, each had about 20 steps (for reference that’s 80 steps and our local lighthouse has 110). I saw many kids collapse on the stairs from exhaustion.

  2. Did China discover AMERICA?
    I would say no, not by this ‘evidence’. Chinese wouldn’t just carve some random characters without meaning. It would be the same as finding random letters and half-words written on a wall. 🙂

      1. Bobcat
        The (likely) pet bobcat found in ceremonial garb in the mound reminded me of an old photo I bought on Ebay last year and had framed.

        Though tempted to get a baby bobcat during my childhood zoo phase I was discouraged from doing so by the owner of a pet store I patronized. He said they were marginally tameable and most of them were real hellions in the modern home – especially as they entered their “teen” months – which would be less of an issue for a Hopewell village complex.
        Apparently the “aunt” (rear inscription) – probably crazy aunt – shown in my photo had no such reservations.

        1. Bobcat
          This woman near me had a bobcat/Manx cross that kept getting loose despite her efforts. It’s illegal in my town to have a wild animal more than 50% wild as a pet. Eventually, after repeatedly fining her, she was forced to give up the cat to a rescue facility. It had been declawed and fixed. We have a really bad problem where I am with people having big wild cats as secret pets. A few years ago two giant pumas got out and were walking the beach I go to. I also knew of someone in the 90s who had a pet coyote.

          1. I grew up with my wild
            I grew up with my wild menagerie in Houston, TX in the 60’s. Houston was at the time an “anything goes” town – it was the Wild West still. We got away with all sorts of things that would not be tolerated within city limits in these tamer times. For instance, in any urban backyard a rollicking fireworks display could be set off in mass quantities. I remember the 4th of July being the “time of fire engines” as domestic structures all over the place caught fire from the onslaught.

            A brief taste of “Christmas Tree Wars” in Houston was written here awhile back;
