News Briefs 01-04-2014

It’s April 1 folks. I’ve done my best to filter out the foolishness, but might still be worth doubling-down on your dose of caveat lector before you begin exploring today’s new briefs…

Quote of the Day:

A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool.

  1. A Flood of Tears Over Noah’s ‘Inaccuracies’
    Oh, please…

Let’s face it: Americans will NOT be getting their heckles raised because of the ‘inaccuracies’ & ‘liberties’ Aronofsky took with a text which was originally plagiarized by an even older book –The Epic of Gilgamesh.

No. Americans will react to Noah the same way they hated Wall-E: Because Aronofsky showed a world in which a wicked civilization that has ravaged the Earth with their insatiable hunger, is ruled to be destroyed by the force controlling the Universe.

In other words, they won’t stand to admit that THEY have become the new sons of Cain.

    1. sons of Cain
I agree. People need to get the hell over it or crawl back into their hole and shut it. If people are really that stupid, and some are, then they are going to find any reason they can to cause a fuss. But it’s not just Americans who are the “Sons of Cain.” If this film is anything, it should be a foretelling of the future, not just something that [may have] happened in the past. People no longer fear god and that’s a problem. Whether you are Catholic, atheist, agnostic, or whatever, you should know that the forces of nature can kick your ass at anytime and there will be nothing you can do about it. And those who just shake their head and say “Nah it won’t happen here, it won’t happen to me,” shame. I lived through a flood that was, to me, “biblical,” but I’m not stupid enough to deny it could happen again tomorrow.

      1. Forces of Nature
Yeah, Noah is portrayed as the ultimate environmentalist. A man so preoccupied with guarding & honoring Creation, that he scolds his son for plucking a single flower out of the earth.

The core message is that viewing Nature as something to rape over instead of caring over is a sin that will eventually be punished.

  2. Whales
The International Court of Justice has ordered a temporary halt to Japan’s annual slaughter of whales in the southern ocean after concluding that the hunts are not, as Japan claims, conducted for scientific research.
About god damn time! And maybe the UN could shut down the Institute for Cetacean Research while they are at it, the bastards who make this so called “science” happen all the while paying the fisherman/whalers barely enough to make a living. All that time, money, and meat…what a god awful waste.

Every time the hoaxed moon landing thing comes up I like to link to Jay Weidner’s analysis of Kubrick’s The Shining. Clearly Kubrick was implying that the first landing was staged – the rest were not. The imperative to “beat” Russia to the moon may have demanded the first risk be taken. Kubrick may be telling a fib, but that is what he is saying in the film.
