News Briefs 29-08-2013

If news briefs were monkeys we’d have to invest in a barrel factory…

Thanks RPJ.

Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.

  1. Faith as a placebo
I think there is a fine line between (organized) religion and faith. With the former, one follows a set of prearranged beliefs and are not generally allowed to stray too far from them. With faith, you can often simply reach a point where you feel… nay, know, that there is just so much more to our existence than is traced back to some monkeys that fell from a tree… and then due to injuries sustained from the same, were forced to walk upright.

The application of faith is far more widespread than many prefer to admit. It takes as much faith to deny the existence of deity as it does to follow one. Reason? Because we’re just not that smart yet. Moreover, it is impossible to scientifically prove that anything does not exist. From there, science does rely on faith, or trust, in method or science itself could not exist.

The placebo effect is indeed present in every medicine cabinet… from the Vatican to CERN 🙂

  2. Sharon Hill is up in the air…

In 1977, the French government created an agency called GEPAN to investigation UFO reports. After producing nothing convincing, official UFO investigations in France ended in 2004.

This is not only completely biased –I would hardly call the COMETA report ‘nothing convincing’– but also patently FALSE. GEPAN changed its name to GEIPAN and it’s been operational since 2005 to the present.
