News Briefs 10-01-2013

Spent entire day without Internet at the office. I’d forgotten how BORING Meatspace really is…

Thanks to Inannawhimsey

Quote of the Day:

“… new rubbish dialogue reaches me every other day on wadges of pink paper – and none of it makes my character clear or even bearable.”

~Sir Alec Guinness.

  1. Premature evaluations
Sean Carroll says “…the laws underlying the physics of everyday life are completely understood.”

You write, RPJ, “So which part explains synchronicities?” Exactly. To which I’d add: which part explains the experience of love? The poetry of Rumi? Or reports of time-slips, NDEs, apparitions, deja vu, precognition, or any number of Fortean phenomena?

    1. He wrote

Many people resist the implication that this theory is good enough to account for the physics underlying phenomena such as life, or consciousness. They could, in principle, be right, of course; but the only way that could happen is if our understanding of quantum field theory is completely wrong. When deciding between “life and the brain are complicated and I don’t understand them yet, but if we work harder I think we can do it” and “I understand consciousness well enough to conclude that it can’t possibly be explained within known physics,” it’s an easy choice for me.

How about “consciousness still seems like a very big mystery, and we might never solve it entirely, so we might as well start considering other options, aside from keep doing what we’ve been doing?”

      there will, i guess, always be a g_d of the g_ps ;3

  2. online fandom
oh look, people who will never get hired for respectful careers 😛
even if they are faking it for attention, they should know anything you put on the internet gets seen by the world (especially when it’s just plain disgusting such a these). enjoy the death threats…

  3. giant peach and other forms of childhood
i loved that story as a kid. You wanna know if tying a bunch of gulls to a peach would work, NO, because the ruddy birds would peck your face off, they don’t give a crap!

Top Films: Yeah you better have Miyazaki on there!

boy i’m full of piss and vinegar today! 😉

        1. Wow
I’m sorry to hear that, bro. I know it’s cliché, and often times annoying, but one should definitely count its blessing when compared to the lot of many people around you.

          1. i do
at least i still have a house, but my area did get slammed hard. it’s scary to know you can loose everything in an instant. 2012 was nearly my apocalypse, and was for many other families up the coast 😛
