Where the hell is Ultraman when you need him?!

Thanks Rick & Greg.

Quote of the Day:

"If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking."

Haruki Murakami (Norwegian Wood)

  1. Messenger
The online transmission has just ended. Messenger has successfully attained an orbit around the closest planet to the Sun.

    Good job, JPL & NASA!

  2. The Reactors In Fukushima!
    Red Pill,

Unless we have another earthquake that is 8 or above on the Richter Scale and/or another large tsunami, the reactors will be cooled by about April 2nd, probably much sooner. We are getting things under control.

    1. Great news
I’ve heard that there has been like more than 600 aftershocks from the original tremor, so another massive earthquake hitting Japan in the near future is highly unlikely.

Nevertheless, I’m knocking on my wooden desk right now 😉

  3. super earths
I’m not so sure about the reliability of simulations of planets in other systems. We are making a lot of assumptions, for example about the chemical composition. All the reliable data we have are from a single solar system. And even within that, when it comes to heavy elements, the data are predominantly from one planet.

So in addition to the excellent work done with telescopes, mathematical models and simulations, we really should go get some more data. Start with the asteroids.

    1. Kepler
We’re about to get a motherload of data from other exoplanets, thanks to the Kepler probe. And from there with the help of spectrographs like the future HARPS North, we will be able to learn about the planets’ chemical compositions.
