Rick’s Macbook is symbiotically tied to its master Steve Jobs. As such, Rick’s out of action today…

Thanks Marcel, Ross and Filip.

Quote of the Day:

There are children playing in the streets who could solve some of my top problems in physics, because they have modes of sensory perception that I lost long ago.

    Microsoft is the Evil Empire?

Imagine if it was the other way around with Apple not Microsoft leading the pack? Well maybe in 2012…that’s what’s going to happen – “Life after the apocalypse” 🙂

    Cheers

    1. not just 2
That sounds as if there were only 2 computer companies in the world.

A lost of people think Microsoft makes computers, they do no such thing.

Apple gave up making their own operating system some years ago with OS/X.

Microsoft started acting more reasonably in the last few years, but not because of market pressure from Apple. The pressure came from governments, and more importantly from Open Source.

it is when you get there.

        1. and…
Also Symbian and Blackberry, and many more special purpose OS…

          PS:
I do agree that Apple has a record of exploiting its control over its part of the marked that is probably more evil than that of Microsoft. Historically, IBM used to be the Bad Guy. Now they support the good guys. But at least while IBM was bad, they were highly innovative (and still are). Microsoft has never invented anything new. That’s why people in the computer industry don’t like them.

  2. Just a query, Greg
The item heading the Blogs List, if clicked, simply throws up a page saying I am not authorised to view this.

What is so mysterious about it, and why can’t I read whatever it is ??? (It isn’t on the Recent Blogs list).

    Just asking,

    Regards, Kathrinn

  3. Smallest exo-planet… depending on how you define ‘small’
Estimate of the Situation notices that the Bad Astronomer might have been too impulsive on his judgment of this discovery:

[quote]Problem is, while the planet may have a diameter “only” twice that of Earth, it weighs eleven Earth masses. And it orbits its host star in 20 hours, rendering it scorching hot and hardly Earth-like.

As reported by one of Phil’s competitors, Space.com, astronomer Alan Boss of the Carnegie Institution corrected the record, pointing out that:

“The claim that it is the ‘smallest exoplanet’ found to date is not correct. . . . It is the smallest mass exoplanet found to date that transits, but other hot super-Earths have been found that do not transit but have lower masses.”
