Happy birthday Mr Doppelganger!

Quote of the Day:

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes.

Dwight Eisenhower (1961)

  1. Oh, Skeptologists, you’re my heroes
That Skeptologists trailer sent me to the floor, LMAO. Could the skeptic worship get any more blatant? And because TV is all about ratings, let me tap my incredible psychotic powers and predict…yes, I’m getting something…

They’ll be going after the telegenic low-hanging fruit, walking through haunted houses (and ships, apparently), looking for cryptids in the forest, reviewing scant UFO evidence, holding their own seances and talking to a lot of “colorful” folks who “saw something.” They won’t do anything boring and actually scientific like their own Ganzfeld or intentionality tests, because those aren’t exciting for the great unwashed audience out there in TeeVeeLand.

Verdict: they will find that all this woo-woo is false-false, viewers will get to feel superior, the network won’t look silly for believing in the paranormal, and the folks who buy books from Dawkins and Hitchens will snap up season one on DVD. And real science on psi and other genuine paranormal topics will languish in the shadows as always, unknown to 98% of the public.

    Psi…I mean, sigh.

  2. Stephen Hawking
“Why would the aliens appear only to ‘cranks” & ‘weirdos'”?

Well, that’s an excellent question, and I wish we could ask them, but I don’t think we can easily dismiss the possibility of visitation only because the phenomenon happens to prefer common folks. By statistical analysis, isn’t it to be expected that such weird phenomena happen MOSTLY to average persons, since there are more common Joes tat VIPs in this little world of us?

Also, Mr. Hawking forgets that he has also included respectable notorious figures like astronauts and politicians into the “cranks & weirdos” pot.

There was a time when scientists rejected the idea of “Ball lightning” only because the only evidence available was anecdotal, but scientific inquiry persevered and now we are unravelling important notions about plasma physics that might have repercusssions we can hardly imagine now.

And also, we settle the problem of the origin of the Unvierse simply by stating that “it appeared spontaneously ‘ex-nihilo’“? Sorry professor, I’m a big fan but that won’t cut it for me.

  3. Working week
“Moon’s birth changed the length of days on Earth. Much like the invention of the working week…”

Ha, ha ha.. good one Greg.

Although it has not been nearly as bad as it was prior to the working week being invented, as there were no week-ends then.

  4. Deicide vocalist Glen Benton claims to have seen a Bigfoot.
I’m seeing one video from these guys in Youtube: “Homage to Satan”

All I say is this: If there’s a living human capable of communicating with the Skunk Ape in its gutural primordial language, it’s definitely THIS guy! 😉
