Let me pick your brain. Don’t worry, I’m certified!

A big round of applause for Rick, who's hard at work trying to win the title of "Editor of the Year". Take a bow, man!

Quote of the day:

"It doesn't take a great leap of faith to imagine science a few thousand years into the future will be very different from what it is today. Down the line, I imagine what we intuitively feel or describe as spiritual will fall into the domain of science, but it will be a type of science that in today's terms we wouldn't recognize at all."

The "editor of the year" award is rigged -- Greg wins it every year.

If there's something we mexicans are good at, is robbing elections :-)

These are still quite popular for schizophrenics and other mental patients, though they have taken another form. The difference between chemically and physically disabling the brain is not so much a matter of whether the effects are temporary or permanent, but that one solution doesn't require us to dirty our hands. Ethicists have dubbed this moral incongruity the trolley problem.

There's a lot of troubling things I find with this story.

But the most ironic one, is the actual name of this "doctor":

Freeman.

In case it escaped the TDG radar, Lawrence Lessig's 'Final' Copyright Lecture is a very good backgrounder but also a very interesting twist on the Creative Commons ideals as a way to perhaps salvage democratic governments from the grip of the big-money lobbyists. A little off-topic, but an interesting proposal nonetheless.

I always enjoyed Lessig's articles that were published on Wired. Great food for thought.
