News Briefs 02-07-2007

It’s a wild and woolly news day, folks.

Quote of the Day:

This is to certify that you have passed W.O.M.B.A.T. Grade 3 and have been awarded the classification of Outstanding.

You are a witch or wizard of extraordinary flair and sagacity. Very few candidates achieve ‘Outstanding’ at Grade 3 W.O.M.B.A.T. Have you ever considered a teaching post at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Application owls from such highly qualified candidates are always welcome. Heartiest congratulations!

Kat’s test results on the W.O.M.B.A.T. (Wizards’ Ordinary Magic & Basic Aptitude Test) Grade 3 at JKRowling.com.

  1. The Serpent & the Pearl?
    >>One of the great mysteries of mythology is the universal symbol of a cosmic serpent with a glowing sphere in the heavens.

Bah! It’s actually just Nagini and Voldemort (with the tip of his wand lit by a ‘Lumos’ spell).

A cosmic serpent, maybe in the heavens by the end of Deathly Hallows, but Voldy definitely isn’t considered a ‘pearl’ by anyone except Nagini.

  2. Hoagland has seriously lost it
    But that’s old news.

As for the bees, the “solution”, if there is one, will be for “local pollinators” to take over and do as much as they are able to do in their place. (most of the bees are European and shouldn’t even be here, anyway) What they can’t do will cause some interruption in certain food products. Oh, well. That will be dealt with as much as we can in as many ways as we can as we always do.

One way or another, “Mother Earth” will “balance” what we have upset, and there’s little, if anything, we can really do about it.

This whole “technology will save us and the world” crap is a fictional “Star Trek”-induced dream state that has little, if anything, or virtually nothing, to do with the real world.

If anything, we tend to screw things up even worse with science and technology than we fix things or make them better. As we have proven time and again over the years, especially so more recently.
