Weirdness abounds. At least in my head…

Quote of the Day:

The biggest threat to America today is not communism; it’s moving America towards a fascist theocracy and everything that has happened during the Reagan administration. Is steering us right down that pipe.

Frank Zappa (1986)

1. I am one of the perplexed..
..in regard to climate change.
We are now on Level 6 for water usage here in SEQ.
Any suggestions?
I suppose there’s always my naked rain dance.
Oh alright I’ll do it.
Tonight.

I am amazed at the giant carcass of whatever it is.I think a whale.Aren’t giant animals amazing in themselves, when you see them alive and when you see them inert as in death.
And the animals from the depth of the sea are incredible.
What a world we live in.
And how lucky we are to be able to see it by way of the internet and TDG.

Suggestion: Desalination … but –

Conventional desalination plants, just like conventional power generators, suck-up fossil fuel like crazy. There are alternatives, and much of the world is taking advantage of the technology.

Nuclear reactors producing electricity also generate significant amounts of low-quality waste heat which can be utilized for producing high-quality water from seawater. Considering that Australia is the driest continent, one wonders why Australia is not mentioned in this article, Nuclear Desalination, from October 2006. El Nino is not likely to end soon and AU is uranium wealthy.

Just saying ……

1. Naked rain dance
Hi Bill,

Nice to see you.

Well I won’t give anyone my address but I am going to do my naked rain dance tonight,8pm.

Yes Australia is the driest continent and one has to wonder why we have waited this long to do something to conserve water.
I think desalination is the way to go.

People here are stupid with water though. My neighbour until a few months ago used to spend hours each day hosing her concrete to cool the area.

I thought I read that El Nino was going to end soon.I don’t know what will happen to us if it continues.

1. Water dummies
I hope your dance pleased whatever dieties are into that sort of thing.

El Nino may end soon but it will return; it will cycle as it has for 5000-years.

AU certainly doesn’t have the entire population of water-wasters. Some prairies of Texas were once covered in native grasses that were as high as a man’s knees while on horseback. This was the food of the buffalo, longhorn, deer, elk, and other plains animals. The native grasses could prosper on little water. But the folks in the cities planted grasses imported from Africa and China that would grow plush and green if given lots and lots of water. Ranchers were just as bad planting fast-growing imported grasses that sucked the soil dry killing off the native grasses. When the drought comes, the lawns in the cities die when water rationing begins. The ranchers import hay from out of state or buy cattle food. Some of us are bucking the system and only planting native grasses.

My favorites are the automatic (timers) sprinkling systems running during the rain, especially during water rationing times. They don’t usually fine businesses.

Bill

1. Native grasses
Unfortunately in Oz Bill, the same thing has happened with native grasses.
In fact most of the native grasses are now extinct.
Here they planted Rhodes grass, the most horrible pest of a grass you could plant anywhere. It may be OK in its native setting but not here.
It has killed off everything as it travels.
We were inundated with it when we lived in the country.

People are now attempting to re-plant native grasses but I would say it is too late.

had a call from a friend tonight who said all the Dugon swam out of the bay tonight. Very strange don’t you think??
Hope it had nothing to do with your DANCE?

“While contemplating on their life, anyone who says they have no regrets and would do it all the same again, have not learn’t anything.”

1. Oh come ON floppy
There are hardly any dugong left in the bay, I think about 900.They go out with the tide.
Anyway I did my dance, down the side yard where the street light doesn’t shine and when the rain comes pouring down next week or the week after all you people from SEQ can put $1 in an envelope and mail it to me care of TDG.
I will go halves with Greg so you can use PayPal if you like.

Well heck, the weather report said solid rain tomorrow night…but only for 12 hours or so. That dance must have worked! Perhaps if we get you to the pre-State of Origin entertainment with that dance we’ll break the drought…?
😉

Kind regards,

Who’s laughing now?
The rains are here.
I did it again!
I’m bloody good!

I don’t waste my talents I can tell you, but level 6 restrictions has me worried.

Greg and I will just sit back now and wait for all the money to pour in.
We only want a buck from you all but anything you want to send is OK with us.

1. buy me a ticket
I just came back from a short vacation in a place where they have been complaining about exceedingly dry and hot weather. While is was there, it rained hard every day, and most of the time it was pleasantly cool. Australians would perhaps call it “cold”.

Due to my genuine desire to help Australia, I would volunteer to come over there for 2 weeks or so, if my expenses will be taken care of.

2. Accident-prone
I’d love to know what personality traits that study found that were common to accident-prone people. I’m one of the most accident-prone people I know – can always be relied upon to step in holes that aren’t there, trip over bumps that aren’t there, or trip over things that are there but just seem to get in front of me at the wrong time!

Lucky I don’t suffer from osteoporosis or I’d resemble a bag of broken biscuits! The lass at the chiropracters who rescue me from my various (and frequent) mishaps says I should never be allowed to leave the house without having cushions tied all over my person.

Though it’s interesting how you always laugh at your own statements…

1. Sorry, guess I need to spell
Sorry, guess I need to spell it out. Frank Zappa’s idiotic statement not only proved to be inane leftist alarmism, but it also proved to be 180 degrees opposite from the direction our nation really went. I find humor in the fact that people were not only gullible enough to buy that tripe in 1987, but that some are still holding onto it like a security blanket in 2007. But I can see how those same humorless people fail to see the comedic performance in which they themselves are bit players.

1. Leftist?
Sorry, guess I need to spell it out. Frank Zappa’s idiotic statement not only proved to be inane leftist alarmism, but it also proved to be 180 degrees opposite from the direction our nation really went.
First, I’m not sure how it could be ‘Leftist’ when Zappa was a staunch conservative and supporter of capitalism – perhaps you’ll need to redefine that term? Second, I’m still unclear as to what his quote has to do with stock market tips. Third, considering (Soviet) communism collapsed two years after this quote, and the current administration has embraced the Christian right (for example) – and fascist leanings (Patriot Act, use of fervent nationalism, suspension of Habeus Corpus) – I’d consider the quote more prescient than ‘180 degrees opposite’ (really, please do explain how Zappa was 180 degrees out, which would literally mean that communism is the biggest threat to America still, and the current administration has no religious influence and uses no fascist techniques – I want to hear this explanation in detail).

In particular, one should make note of the context of the statement as well, in which Zappa is defending the right of artists to free speech, in the face of the Christian right exerting significant political pressure for bans on ‘obscene’ material. We should be thankful that people like Zappa stood up to be counted on this particular issue.

I thought maybe after your ‘humourous’ attempt to bash Aldous Huxley you’d have pause to do it again. Guess your dogma’s reflexes are strong enough to overcome any hesitation though…
😉

Kind regards,
Greg

You monkeys only think you’re running things

1. Interesting
Saying someone is a ‘Leftist’ is a little bit like saying that person’s words are irrelevant.

It is also a little bit like wanting people who do not agree to shut up.

We do not create our thoughts, we think social thoughts according to the ideology that we embrace.

If we knew anything we would not act as such.

There is not a single ideology on earth that is rooted in reality. Not one. Especially not the political and the spiritual ideologies.

They are all conditioned appreciations that have for one no conscience of consequences and then they are totally limited by the material perception of self.

There is no way that before we are at least aware of the dimentions that compose the non material aspects of our infinity that we can have any understanding of the real occult reasons behind the movements of individuals and even less so those of civilizations.

Politics is a tool of power for those that seek it, even through association to a group, while politics is an occult science of manipulation for the invisible.

There is no lucidity in polarity, only the impression of being right within one’s own polarized view.

A polarized view can never see the whole, it is shielded from its opposite.
