Another week gone. Who hit the fast forward button on my life?

  • Fresh from his ‘win’ over Baigent and Leigh, Dan Brown now has this Catholic author’s $400 million plagiarism suit to worry about. Actually, looking at what the author says in the article, I don’t think Dan’s got much to worry about…
  • Caral may have a rival for the title of the oldest citadel in the Americas: Bandurria.
  • British Parliament asked how much did the Condign Report (the plasma UFO thing from last year) cost. Fourth item down on the page.
  • New Malaysian Bigfoot tracks?
  • Cone-headed skulls discovered near Nazca. Fodder for the next EvD book?
  • Archaeologists find remnants of legendary ‘lost’ Islamic kingdom.
  • Experiments show that communication signals between neurons are indistinguishable from random firings, calling into question fundamental theories of how the brain works.
  • Artery stents found to be no more helpful than drug therapy.
  • Asteroid? We don’t need no steenking asteroid to triumph over the big lizards.
  • China and Russia join forces for Mars mission. The Red Planet is about to go crimson.
  • And just to add to the colourful view of space: star explosion highlights the “Purple Rose of Virgo“.
  • Is living on the coast becoming a risky proposition?
  • Scientific precision at work: Mount St Helens could go on erupting for centuries, or it could stop today. Nothing like keeping your options open.
  • Religious precision at work: Pope says there really is a hell, with flames and heat and that whole eternal damnation thing. And, being the closest man to God on the planet, he should know. Except the previous Pope said the opposite. Ummmm.
  • Robotics engineers use amoeba movement for inspiration in their latest search and rescue bots.
  • Wall Street Journal comment to Americans concerned about Global Warming: you are morons.
  • Does the Mayan calendar predict apocalypse in 2012?

Quote of the Day:

Look again at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every “superstar”, every “supreme leader”, every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there — on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

  1. Fast Forward – a beautiful story it is …
    GREG SAYS:

“Another week gone. Who hit the fast forward button on my life?”

    Dear Greg,

    … it was me.

Ok, maybe it was not me … I was forced to lie like that by the metatastic archangel, Lord Satan ( … true, he forced me to say that ‘oh so politely’ although he did so with a fully cribbed gattling gun shoved up against my uvula … and tongue … but he ain’t so bad, no … he’s somewhat a hero in these parts indeed … God bless you, Greg … (ahem, this is all metaphorically speaking, of course … you know that) … but during my last NDE (not dressed like Eisenhower) experience … in my past time / life and all … ahhh, it was actually a Russian alien spy clone doll dressed as a midget and protesting on behalf of all those little people (except Hitler and General Tom Thumb … and the electric lite-weight orchestra … and those various other dwarf supporting crew members) … Glorbochovski, alias “aka: the Clock Reaper … and Jesus, the Solar Son God of the Jesuits (aka ‘Popeye of the Cross and the Holy Veritablists’) who … impaled as he was (primarily) upside down under the sovereign dictates of Brutus, the anti-popeye and evil lord shiva worshipped the Lizard Saint, Thomas Iguana’s.
I ask you … is that not a beautiful story?

    1. Hey anubis2..?
You been poppin’ too many of the yellow pills recently?

That post of yours gets a 10 out of 10 for surreal freakery.

  2. Nice quote
    Nice quote from Carl Sagan.

Taken from the book “Pale Blue Dot”, I believe, which has as its opening page a photograph taken from the Voyager spacecraft as it leaves the solar system.

The photo is almost entirely black, with a pale blue dot in the middle, and a ‘dusty’ shaft of light which appears to be illuminating it.

The dot is the Earth, the photo taken on the fringes of our solar system. An amazing and humbling photo – and a suitably humbling series of words from the people’s scientist to match.

I can highly recommend that book to everyone here.

You can see the image I describe here

  3. Mayan calander
So, if we are to believe astronomers, the Mayans could not have known about the galactic alignment that coincides with their calendar.

Geez, quite a strike of luck!

I guess this proves the randomness of evolution.
