Quote of the Day:

Observe always that everything is the result of change, and get used to thinking that there is nothing Nature loves so well as to change existing forms and to make new ones like them.

  1. Talking Elmo book has adult theme!
This just reinforces my belief that Sesame Street is trying to brainwash the children of the world.

From the unreal lead me to the real!
From darkness lead me to light!
From death lead me to immortality!

    1. Seasame Street The True Evil.
Yes teaching children to count and read is evil:)

If it had not been for SS I would not be writing this now. I was in the 2nd grade and still not reading or writing. When SS came on, they would show the Letter or number and fill the screen. It wasn’t that I couldn’t learn. I couldn’t see! Thank You Seasame Street.

  2. I rather liked the other stories
    under the Elmo story.
Particularly the one about two Mormons going door to door who got shot.
Now I do not advocate shooting the little Mormon people who regularly knock on your door, but to be honest, who hasn’t thought of doing something to the buggers.
When I have tried to be nice to them and asked them in for a drink they insisted I call them “Elder”.
    Not on your nelly!
They were about less than a third of my age.

The Elmo story is weird. Why would they do that?

I really liked the last link best about the dangerous ideas.
I suppose my most dangerous idea was when I once got the notion that Dubya Bush was actually human.Fortunately I got over it quickly.

    1. respect
You know I respect most people, in fact almost everyone. But if I invite someone to my place of residence, they should respect me as their host. If you are in my house, I am the boss, whether you are a mormon elder, the Dahlai Lama, King Liz, I don’t care. For those who are christians (and I only say this now because of the Mormon context here), Jesus himself would treat my as if he was a humble guest in my house.

Perhaps that is why Mormons don’t visit me.

    2. Where is your ‘mormon’
Where is your ‘mormon’ story? I don’t see it. And what context are you taking it in, both you and earthling assuming that they somehow ‘provoked’ what happened? Everything I read seemed to show that it was completely random.

Oh and Shadow, it doesn’t surprise me that you would find a way for the whole ‘Elder’ thing to offend you. But since you obviously aren’t aware it has nothing to do with age or saying they are better than you, it’s a simple title: (dictionary.com)
      eld·er
      1. An older person.
      2. An older, influential member of a family, tribe, or community.
      3. One of the governing officers of a church, often having pastoral or teaching functions.
      4. Mormon Church. A member of the higher order of priesthood.

      1. recruiting
I don’t show up at people’s doors, to convince them of my better religion or science, and then when they invite me in demand that they call me “doctor”. Which is a title I have earned.

Yes, demanding to be called by title IS saying that you are better than the other person, if only in the area of your specialization.

When someone lets you into their home, you are not their superior, you are their guest, and you should be humble.

So what does any of that have to do with this particular story? All we know is “… when a man approached the two, shot them and ran away.”

I guess what I find so disturbing, is both you and shadow sound almost as if “Well they had what’s coming”… when from the little facts we do know about the incident, the guy just approached them and shot them . You are ASSUMING it’s because the shooter was bothered, as you are, by their coming to peoples doors preaching. That is a huge leap of logic to make.

Additionally, I don’t know how many “Elders” you have met, but not all of them DEMAND to be called Elder, it’s a strictly case by case thing. They actually get in trouble if they call each other by their first names, so that’s probably where it stems from. But they are not taught to DEMAND that everyone call them Elder, that’s ridiculous.

And to be perfectly honest, I have had more people demand that I refer to them as Doctors, than Missionaries demand they be called Elder. But I don’t make blanket assumptions about all doctors being arrogant A-holes because of it.

          1. reference
I was simply responding to shadows comment about her personal experience, not the news story. I don’t condone shooting people for differences in religion.

I do however stand by my attitude towards people who come to my house, trying to convince me to join their religion, and not taking No for an answer. Or approaching me on semi-public grounds, such as a university campus or an airport. They should leave me alone if I ask politely, but often they do not. I find that arrogant, I’m sorry.

      2. Way to go, Thrust!
I made an off the cuff funny reply to something I had spotted under the link and Thrust comes out, guns blazing John Wayne style, to shoot me down and defend a silly religion that has made victims of many many women over the past hundred years.
        Onya Thrust!
Go and find something to argue over mate, I ain’t gunna argue with any pipsqueak defence of Mormonism.
        It was said in jest.
        Or don’t neocons understand humour?
