News Briefs 31-05-2004

Happy Memorial Day to everyone in the US. Unfortunately, this will be my last post as a regular TDG news poster, as the demands of other aspects of life are causing me to want to give up this commitment. Still, I’ll continue to lurk around this great site and may even fill in as a backup to the other guys from time to time. Thanks to everyone who has offered their support along the way. Certainly is an interesting variety of news out there this weekend…

Quote of the Day:

The belief in the possibility of a short decisive war appears to be one of the most ancient and dangerous of human illusions.

Robert Lynd (1879-1949) Anglo-Irish essayist, journalist

Rich, I want to thank you for your work here at this site. You’ll be missed. Spiral Out. Keep Going!

    1. Rich Rocks
      Aye,

We’ll all be missing Mr Rich, that be for sure. Hope his busy schedule lets him chime in here at TDG occasionally.

A huge personal thanks from me for everything that Rich has done here on the website…you da man Rich.

      Peace and Respect
      Greg

Thanks for the well wishes, guys. Also, thanks to Greg for letting me be a part of this great site and for being a more than fair ‘boss’ over the past couple of years. Perhaps I’ll find a new niche here in a lesser role. However, I haven’t yet figured out exactly what I would want that to be beyond being a possible backup news person–will probably start doing a blog if nothing else.

  2. GP Mysterious inscription
Did Dr. Schoch clear this announcement with Dr. Zahi Hawass, the Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and the Director of the Giza Pyramids Excavation? If not, it doesn’t exist and it’s not true, according to the rules.

Does anybody have a guess as to what it is or what it says?

    Bill

    1. Inscription Translation
I think this is proto-greek, or a greek/coptic mix, probably written before 800 B.C. I’m guessing it is someone’s name, a form of graffitti. The letters most likely translate to:

      Upsilon – Theta – Xi – Phi

      or, Utaxapi was here!

      Peace,

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
