New Dan Brown Book ‘Close’?

Cross-posting from The Cryptex, my Dan Brown blog: The WSJ has some promising news about The Solomon Key from Doubleday’s Stephen Rubin:

Now, the publisher is hinting that a manuscript is close. “Dan Brown has a very specific release date for the publication of his new book, and when the book is published, his readers will see why,” says Stephen Rubin, president of Bertelsmann’s Doubleday Broadway Publishing Group, whose Doubleday imprint publishes Mr. Brown. Mr. Rubin declined further comment.

Rubin seems to be hinting at a specific reason behind the publication date. Is it likely to be a day of importance in American history or politics? July 4th, the start of the election campaign…what do you think?

Of course, for a sneak peek at the likely topics, you can check out my book The Guide to Dan Brown’s The Solomon Key (Amazon US and Amazon UK). C’mon, did you think I wouldn’t plug the book? I do have to pay the bills y’know…

  1. Mormonism & Freemasonry
    Heh,

I think it would be a hoot to see Mormonism wrapped up with Freemasonry in Brown’s novel. Mprmonism was Joseph Smith’s vision of what Freemasonry should become.

Smith was a Freemason and was obsessed with all aspects of it to the extent that he thought it (Freemasonry) should become an international religion, in fact, THE international religion. His problems began with the fact that both religion and politics are prohibited from discussion within any lodge. Freemasonry is religious in nature, but it is NOT a seperate religion, nor intended to replace one’s own religion or beliefs.

Joseph Smith, however, refused to toe the line and as a result was expelled from both his lodge, and Freemasonry in America. Shortly thereafter he begon to have visions and visitations, and the rest is, as they say, history.

It is worth noting that Mormonism is simply a reworking of Freemasonry, and includes many of the same symbols and oaths, reworked for a more religious conotation, and to offset any copyright concerns. Mormon religious garments (that holy underwear) have both the square and compasses embroidered upon them, and Temple oaths are similar in nature and construction to those sworn in the various degrees by Freemasons. Heck, the Mormons even have aprons, although theirs are green rather than white.

As someone who lived for many years among the Mormons, and who is also a 32nd degree Freemason, I am always surprised that “the faithful” haven’t figured out the scam that Joseph Smith was running. He couldn’t convince Freemasonry to become a religion, so he did it himself outside of the Lodge.

    Respects,
    Gwedd

    1. Movie
The wife and I just watched September Dawn this last weekend. It’s about the massacre committed by Mormons against a wagon train of people headed for California in 1857. The two scenes featuring Joseph Smith went by pretty quick, but I loved how they portrayed him. They did an even better job with the portrayal of Brigham Young.
