Darklore Sample Articles
Posted by Greg at 23:13, 24 Apr 2009As mentioned earlier this week, the third instalment of our anthology Darklore is now available.
I promised some sample articles from the new release, which I've just now added to the Darklore website in their original typeset format from the book, as PDF files. They are:
- My investigation of near-death experiences from before their rise into the public consciousness with Raymond Moody's book Life After Life. It's titled (rather cleverly, if I do say so myself) "Death Before Life After Life".
- A wonderful examination of strange lights seen in the sky coincident with earthquakes - Geoff Falla's "Shaking Stars".
- Mike Jay's insightful look at the evolving public perception of cocaine, through the example of the world's most famous fictional detective (and apparently world-class coke-head), Sherlock Holmes, in "Watson...the Needle!"
Note that I've retained links to the sample articles from Volumes 1 and 2 on the website as well, for those that haven't read them yet.

Also: if you missed the eye candy, I also posted earlier this week a bunch of gorgeous desktop wallpapers (in various sizes and formats), based on the cover of Darklore Volume 3.
And, because we would actually be very, very happy if you bought a copy, here's the purchasing options once more:
- Amazon US Limited Edition Hardcover
- Amazon US Paperback
- Amazon UK Limited Edition Hardcover
- Amazon UK Paperback
The feedback on the Darklore series has been really positive, which makes all the hard work worth it. The best thing is I'm pretty sure Darklore Volume 4 will step things up a notch, with the plans currently underway!
(Note: As with Darklore Volume 2, Amazon seem to be sending out unrealistic delivery estimates to some purchasers. It's a book they can source in 24 hours, so I'm not sure what causes this bug in their system. Given previous experience with it though, rest assured the delivery will be much earlier than they are predicting.)

I just ordered all three DarkLore books from the Amazon UK. Those books are very hard to find here in Finland, but I'll do my best to pass the word around and to get people ordering them online.

Kiva tavata sinut, Johannes!
Great to see Darklore reaching all corners of the world (and other dimensions perhaps?). It's a shame that we can't have a book launch party, with everyone spread across the world, but I'm sure Greg celebrated with a fine Victorian beer.

Nice to meet you too, Rick,
and thank you so much for the warm welcome. I don't think I've ever been welcomed to a new site, or forum, abroad in my native tongue before!
Yes, the Darklore has reached the snow shores of the High North. I spotted the article on the news sections of the toolband.com (so, once again blame Tool!). Hopefully, and with your kind permission, I could promote them on my myspace page and on my website.

Why not publish the Darklore books on Kindle?

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion. There are a number of issues I have with Kindle, not least that Amazon pays the publisher a royalty/profit of just 35% of the book's retail price from each sale (I mean, c'mon - it's an ebook...how do they justify 65% for them, and 35% for the publisher and author).
But that's academic anyhow, because to publish on Kindle I have to be resident in the United States. ("13. Representations, Warranties and Indemnities. Publisher represents and warrants that: (i) it is a corporation or other entity or a sole proprietorship or person domiciled in the United States"). Which I'm not.
So between not being allowed to, and no profitability anyhow, it's not really an option at the moment.
Kind regards,
Greg

Although selling them in PDF format might be an option. PDF viewing is experimental —meaning non-existent— in the newest Kindle version, but maybe in subsequent releases it will be fully adopted.
Besides, Kindle is not the only e-reader in the market. It's NOT the iPod... yet ;-)

Heavy metal band Celtic Frost used his artwork on their groundbreaking album "Into the Pandemonium" The picture they used was "Garden of Delights" Check out http://www.celticfrost.com/vcf/index.html
