Bad Universe
Posted by Greg at 07:11, 23 Jul 2010In recent months Phil 'Bad Astronomy' Plait has been mentioning a "sooper sekrit" project that he's involved with. All has now become clear, with the release of the trailer for a new Discovery Channel show, Bad Universe. Starring - of course - the Bad Astronomer, and apparently working off some of the material in his book Death from the Skies (Amazon US and UK):
I can haz TV show too?

Yeah, but its the discovery channel, which is only 1 up from the history channel.
When its not your own subject you can watch it and ponder, but whenever they do geology programs they have a very high chance of being bollocks.
It sort of ruins your faith in anything else being good.
And do they have some rule on the number of facts you can have a minute or before you need some dramatic cinematic.
I flicked over one yesterday that was talking about the moons of Jupiter. It explained how far Jupiter was from the Earth, then for some reason added graphics of the Hubble Deep Field while they were saying that it really was very very far.
Can you imagine how long it would take to do a collage course or even degree at Discovery Speed.

It's not the depth of the rabbit hole that bugs me...

Phil must be having a BLAST with this. We all should be so lucky as to have an opportunity to promote one's BS (belief system) in this way.
