Mars Flyovers

Just too cool not to post: using 3D imagery from their Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO), NASA has created astoundingly precise 3D maps of the surface of Mars. Even funkier, they’ve used the data to come up with some virtual flyover movies of areas of the Red Planet, including Victoria Crater near the Opportunity rover, and also the area around the Spirit rover. It’s literally like taking a helicopter ride on Mars, fun stuff…the kind of thing I used to dream about as a kid when marvelling over the images transmitted back from the Viking probes. Things will certainly get interesting (either way) when they create a flyover of the Cydonia region and the ‘Face on Mars’…
