News Briefs 9-09-04

A mixed bag today; from dinosaurs to crazy Australians.

  • More detail on the story reported by Greg on Tuesday about America’s earliest settlers. Oscar Wilde said once “America has been discovered before, but it was always hushed up”.
  • Want some revisionist history? The defenders of the Alamo were slave traders and land grabbers.
  • An unmarked black helicopter has been harassing a U.S. community.
  • The fourth great breakthrough in aeronautical history: the fanwing aeroplane. Try the makers website too, although it has recently been out of service due to bandwidth quotas being exceeded.
  • Visit the virtual Buddha. An online view of Buddhist art and a meditative surfing experience.
  • SF author Bruce Sterling gives a scathing opinion on the “singularity” reported by Greg recently: it’s just a wet dream for techno-geeks.

  • Global Warming could kill millions of humans.
  • More from the Dutch medium who takes photos of spirits that look like Grays.

  • Two explorers are going in search of the Orang Pendek, or “jungle Yeti”.
  • Dinosaurs may have been doting parents.
  • Most violent deaths are not due to murder or war, but suicide. Go donate to the Samaritans, people.

  • Australians are tough: prison inmates milk deadly spiders to get high.
  • Drug resistant microbes are becoming resistant to disinfectants too.
  • Dark matters surround dark energy: the possibility of new weapons of mass destruction or even the “Big Rip” which could end the Universe.

As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.

  1. My Ancestors Were There…Alamo
I don’t know where some of this stuff comes from…but my ancestors were just good folks trying to reestablish their lives in a chaotic land. Not unlike today.

    1. queer turbo
      Hi Cernig ,

Well it sure could do with some design, as for the specs these look promising, i watched some mpeg’s but not much can be deduced from them apart from that it flies, interesting to see if any of the big boys, airbus/ boeing picks this concept up specially boeing is in need of some economic lift.

  2. Archeo-Dog
Let’s get Chuska and NatGeo together and send them to Giza. They couldn’t do any worse than Maury Povich & Zahi. All they found was a bunch of old bones, and I’m told dogs are real good at that.

“The Bones of Isis” featuring the archaeological wonder dog, Chuska!

Hmmm. Need some credentials. Ph.D. (Pretty hip Doggie), B.A. (Bone Analyst), M.S. (Master Sniffer); that ought to do it. Somebody get Zahi and NG on the line, alert the media, and call ARE. Might as well do this thing right.

    Regards,
    khefre
