We are at the very beginning of time for the human race. It is not unreasonable that we grapple with problems. But there are tens of thousands of years in the future. Our responsibility is to do what we can, learn what we can, improve the solutions, and pass them on.

  1. welcome back to the old cold war
Strange that the ‘The Scotsman’s’ article fails to discuss the relation between these new missile systems hinted at by Putin and the US desire for a missile shield and eventual militarization of space.

To me this failure from an journalistic standpoint is much more bizarre than Putins’ “bizarre claim of new nuclear weapons”

    1. Putin Power
      Hi Richard,

Dont you just love this retoric by putin, and yes sure any weapon as described by him is aimed at the US and by inference invites the rest of the world that feels threatened by bush and co to come to ‘daddy russia’. Fact is that the russians have some superior rocket technology but far more elevant, EMP weapons that would shut down the us and its defenses.
Putin is throwing up some extra dice towards the US, all ready vastly overspending and reaching its financial limits. Lets have them on a wild and multibillion goose chase. The US is well advised to stay away from playing poker with Putin.

I must say i admire the man for still going abroad when he knows full well the american/zionist cabal would have his head on a platter, sooner rather than later.

      1. Missile Shield
        Hi Richard and Tox,

Richard, you are utterly right. I had intended to post this far better version of the story from Noel over at Defence Tech. (Congrats to him for making the mainstream news as one of the first bloggers to be bought by a big company – hope the money doesnt affect the quality of his site.)I have no idea why I didn’t…mustve been a brain fart.

Tox, the Russians have said for many years, even as far back as Gorby, that they could defeat Star Wars or any version of it for a fraction of the cost. Seems they intend to prove it. Gives the lie to the great American myth that Reagan brought down the Soviets by threatening them with an arms race that would bankrupt them.

        1. more of the same nightmare
          Hi Cernig,
I never thought Putin was heading anywhere else, but surely they need to get their country out of it’s awful mess before they can do anything.
I hear from Europe that the Russian Mafia are running things in Russia so financially they are in trouble.
Who’d a thought again that Russian missiles would be pointing at America .
It’s a pity there isn’t somewhere they can all go off the planet to fight it out….best (worst) man wins.

          shadows

          1. Putin Powerless ?
            Hi Shadows,

Well the russian maffia sure made use of the chaos russia was in the nineties, btw did you know 6 of the 7 largest mob families are jewish ? Hardly surprising considering religious/genetic ties have held the jews up against the rest of the world of goyim. Names like Khodorofsky -currently in jail for ‘tax evasion’, or abramovitsch – the hi flying chelsea owner- living in london, close to the resident rothchild clan residing there. There’s much more for the russians to contend with, anyway i dont think russia is in financial trouble, certainly not anywhere close to the financial mess the usa is in.

As for those rockets its not a question of directing them towards the usa, they still are, many have been taken down but there remain plenty.

” do unto others as you would have them do unto you “

          2. I didn’t know
            Hi Tox,
No I did not know that about the Russian Mafia being mostly Jewish.I guess it’s the Jewish way of thanking Russia for all the suffering it inflicted on the Jews throughout the ages.
I remember the Russians asking America for help to dismantle their nuclear devices as they had no money to do it themselves.
I guess at this stage we cannot look forward to any democratic elections in Russia in the near future.

            shadows

          3. Cornered Russia
In a sense, Russia has been cornered since the beginning of the fall of the Soviet Union. For a start, they were forced into a spiraling movement of economical changes by the west at a pace that did not allow smooth adaptation and, since then, Nato has been stealing countries away from what the Russians felt were their traditional sphere of influence.

Now, with Afghanistan in the hands of the west, with the hope of strategically securing a pipeline that would circumvent Russia’s hopes to have some control over oil traffic in the region, and the forced transformation of other allies (Serbia and Iraq for instance) into west handled entities, adds to the pressure.

With all this, the addition of a missile shield and weapons capable of neutralizing satellites (communications, positioning and reconnaissance), one should expect something would happen.

    1. Israeli interrogators in Iraq.
      Hi again, Richard,

Sorry I was so slow about coming back on this one but I had to find the link again. Way back in July, the august and reverend Jane’s published a special Foreign Report. It reported that:

“At least one aspect of the occupation of Iraq was well planned by Washington. The USA needed help conducting mass interrogations of Arabic-speaking detainees. Foreign Report can now reveal that, to make up for this shortfall, the USA employed Israeli security service (Shin Bet) experts to help their US counterparts ‘break’ their captives….Foreign Report has learnt that top Shin Bet interrogation experts were sent to Iraq to help with the most difficult interrogations, such as the captured heads of the Iraqi intelligence – and perhaps with former president Saddam Hussein. US sources say that in spite of the incidences of abuse in Abu Ghraib prison, such events are not representative of the sophisticated methods that Shin Bet used in Iraq.”

Now reread the News link above, and shiver. I did.

      Regards, C

  2. Wanna play some D & D?
When I was a wee lad I picked up my first three booklet set of the original Dungeons and Dragons. That was the start of my lifelong love of role-playing games. I agree with the article that these games forced me to use my mind much more than my non-gamer contemporaries, and easily helped me break into the video games industry, where I designed games for six years. Even though Gary Gygax is a bit of a paranoid dweeb (met him several times), I still say congratulations to D & D turning 30.

    Peace,

    1. I will bring the dice.
      Hi ASM,

I started playing DnD as a student, aged 18…and now at age 40 I am just beginning to design my 4th campaign setting. I taught my older kids to play and they love it. Old gamers never die, they just wear the corners off their dice.

      Regards, C

      1. All my dice were stolen
Okay I’ve been carrying this like a dirty secret for years now, and it’s time to come out into the open …. I play Dungeons & Dragons. There, I’ve said the unmentionable. Luckily, I’m unemployed and I don’t have a girlfriend so I can admit this freely!

I remember being in high school, late 1980s, and there was a huge media wave against the evils of Satanic roleplaying games; D&D manuals were found in the bedroom of a teenager who either committed suicide or committed a murder (I can’t remember which). So obviously everyone who plays Dungeons & Dragons is evil and practices satanic rituals and wants to kill themselves or others. I remember having to explain the game to the school principal and several teachers, it was ridiculous.

Nowadays, I’ve actually witnessed teachers come into games stores and purchase RPGs such as Star Wars for school activities. So the image of RPGs seems to have changed a little (but not much… try telling strangers at a dinner party you play a level 10 wizard with 18 charisma!).

What really makes me angry are Hollywood actors and the whole celebrity scene. It’s okay for adults to get paid millions of dollars just for playing make-believe and wearing the right designer fashions, but when actor Vin Diesel says he plays Dungeons & Dragons … suddenly he’s a freak.

I don’t play much anymore — at 31-years-old, I just don’t know anyone who plays the game anymore. Australia is notorious for bullying anyone who is different, unfortunately.

        1. Dungeons & Dragons
          >>So obviously everyone who plays Dungeons & Dragons is evil and practices satanic rituals and wants to kill themselves or others.

Funny, I always thought it’s main benefit was keeping my crowd off the streets and out of trouble. The worst things about playing were the copious amounts of beer consumed and the game being so addictive we sometimes got only 3 hours of sleep somewhere between Friday afternoon and Monday morning.

          >>Luckily, I’m unemployed and I don’t have a girlfriend so I can admit this freely!

Okay, make that ‘kept us out of trouble’ except for Mike’s wife, who used to slowly cruise by my apartment at all hours of the night to make sure we were all still in front of the window rolling dice rather than… whatever else she imagined he might be up to.

The ‘dungeon’we played in was so big, we had a map of the planet that stretched 12 feet wide across my living room wall.

          >>try telling strangers at a dinner party you play a level 10 wizard with 18 charisma!

Every single time my character Ramon prayed, I rolled a 1 on a hundred-sided die and a god showed up with presents. 🙂 That character’s belief system and uncanny luck gave me new insight into the concept of ‘faith’.

          >>All my dice were stolen.

Dice are cheap. Let’s roll. 😉

      2. All hail the Dungeon Master
Figure out a way for us to play online and I’ll enthusiastically join in.

(Now if I can just remember what box I packed up my character Ramon De Silva in. And if I could just find my old dungeon master, Mike, I’d talk him out of that nuclear-powered ‘sail’ boat for us.)

        Kat

        1. mwahahaha
There are quite a few websites that cater for online roleplaying — it’s not the same as being in the same room though. Still, with all of us living on different parts of the planet, who am I to complain? 😉

Have you heard of a french RPG called “Reve de Dragon”? It looks pretty good, you can download a free pdf version here.

I’m a big Cthulhu fan meself. Which explains why I’m a news presenter on TDG …

          1. all in the same room
Nah, games like Everquest just ain’t the same. You’re up against the guy who wrote his own program to play it with 26 computers at once, so he could sell his semi-ill-gotten gains on ebay. Plus there’s a monthly bill to pay.

We might have to wait a year or two before everyone has access to the same level of technology, but if Cernig, Ancient Skyman, you and I all had broadband internet service and (free) Skype phone service, I bet we could achieve a satisfying approximation of that ‘in the same room’ feeling. We could just scan in some hand-drawn maps to email around, trust each other to tell the truth about dice-rolls, get that free conference call going for hours on end, and irritate the heck out of our nearest and dearest with all our hoots, moans, groans, bad jokes, and expletives.

I know I’ll miss Mike’s human paladin who’s life was ‘saved’ when he was put in the body of a lizard man king. He used to get drunk and tell us tales of his former life; and he had to spend outrageous amounts of treasure to get human females to bed him — since they were terrified he’d eat them. But I’m sure you guys can take up the slack.

Watch out for my teleportation helmet though. Last time I used it I was 3 feet off, so it’s probably about to run out of juice.

            Kat

          2. The Call
I can’t count the number of times I scared the bejezzus out of players during Call of Cthulhu games I used to run. Oh those were the days . . .

Nowadays I exercise my RPG addiction with massively multiplayer online role playing games MMORPG, like Ultima Online (the first and maybe still the best) Asheron’s Call, Everquest (didn’t really like this one), or Starwars Galaxies (my current fav). They leave nothing to the imagination, as it is all laid out for you in stunning hardware accelerated 3D, but the social element of adventuring with friends is still there.

I haven’t played the pen and paper version in years, but I know this guy across town that has just finished his ‘Magnum Opus’ campaign . . . now where were those dice again?

            Peace,

            AncientSkyman

  3. internet hunting
    Hi,

Now why havent those pentagon sickos come up with this, sounds like the ideal set up for the fallujah area’, shoot yourself a terrorist !

” do unto others as you would have them do unto you “

    1. Dont give them ideas!
      Hi Tox,

Maybe the military wouldnt do this – it would cut the number of fancy toys they needed to make up for their feelings of inadequacies about the size of their masculine endowments. However, I can see one or two tabloid newspapers doing it…the Sun in the UK springs to mind. Remember their headlines from the first Gulf War? Or the Falklands conflict?

      Regards, C

      1. online terror
        Hi Cernig,

Tabloids ? A brainwave i have to mention ; It is an ideal terror tool, a set up like this would enable every sicko to randomly gun down anyone without punity, until the gun was found and disabled.

” do unto others as you would have them do unto you “
